I'm here alright, and busier than a one legged man.. wait, man + busy... is that possible?
Just kidding!
I got to go to Fairbanks for a conference and took a tour of the Cold Climate Research Center. They are doing wonderful things for sustainable living and net-zero housing. Even up here in the frigid north we can harvest a bunch of energy from the sun and we have more than enough wind to generate power too.
The storm started out pretty far away and some of it made it's way here, but only about an inch or so of snow so far can be attributed to the storm. The coast was not so lucky but you have to realize that is like the storm being a Laree's house and I'm living with Belle. Ok, maybe it's not that far, but it is way far from here and there are a few really tall mountain ranges between us.
But the people on the coast, although used to it, are getting hit really hard. One of the sessions I enjoyed at the conference was some detail discusion about one of the villages that is being moved because the coastline is eroding right out from under them. It's very sad, their history is washing away and there's nothing that can stop it. I feel for them and worry about how they are keeping all the families safe right now.
I miss you and hope to have some time to visit tomorrow. Although the wedding is small, there are still a few details to deal with. Tom and I are taking Thursday and Friday off together and we already have our license and rings so now all we need to do is make a dinner reservation, change the water in the hot tub and find a way to ditch the boy child so we can have the house to ourselves
Cheers
