I never made it quite the same. This was (all measurements are approximate, since I'm far too lazy to measure accurately):
1 cup corn meal
1 cup flour
5 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/3 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup half n half (didn't have any milk)
4 tbls vegetable oil (I like it moist!)
Preheat your greased (I usually use real butter, but today I had to use Crisco 'cuz I was out of butter) skillet in the oven at 450. Of course you mix your dry and your wet separately. Then mix together minimally, lumps are a-okay. Pour into the heated skillet (should make a very satisfying sizzle sound), and bake until done 20-25 minutes. It's done when it pulls away from the sides of your skillet. I generally leave mine in a bit longer, because I like the crispy top crust.
yawn. drats....20 min. before the school bus comes and drops of the preschooler than off we drive off to pick up the 2nd grader nearby but you know what? I always bud in line. I don't know why people space themselves out so much and then sometimes they don't go, like they know their kid is probably one of the last kids out...so I just go right by them all and turn up the drive so I'm usually number 3 or 4 in line. Think they all grumble when I pass them? But if I don't, then I won't be able to turn onto the road and why are they spaced sooo far apart???
And I've gottan in line before and then all of a sudden the line started passing me cuz the lady in front of me just sat there. I don't get it...so I'll just bud.

Kelli, tell the story of the Goamel. These folks need to know.
Oh no, I don't think they're ready for Goamels. We're still on cornbread and anti-depressants. We've got another thousand or so pages to go before we're ready for that!
I'm rockin' out to "Jessie's Girl" by Rick Springfield. The song is so wrong (coveting your best friend's girlfriend, wow!), but I sure enjoy it anyway. I guess that probably says a lot about me.
I printed the cornbread recipe, will try it out this weekend! You think it would be okay in a stainless ovenproof skillet?
