In other news, my broody hatched a chick the other day.

I think I'll run down and check on my broody while I wait for things to clear up.

How's the bator doing? Candled yet?

The bator's been unplugged for the last 3 months.

I decided to hatch with broodies this season so I didn't have to mess with heat lamps or brooding chicks in the house. This broody was a first timer and I just gave her whatever eggs she was sitting on when I found her, so I knew she'd have "designer" chicks. Although the one she hatched looked like a pure Silkie. I have 3 Showgirl roos in that pen and a few Silkie hens, so a pure Silkie is a possibility.

I'm so glad they got on that fast! I'm glad the posts disappeared - that person was creepy.

Me too!

I am dying to get some chicks. Like, RIGHT NOW. Even though the beginning of February is definitely not an ideal time to get chicks, here.

Maybe I'll wheedle DH into building me a brooder for the garage, that should help with the wait.

I didn't get down to the barn; my little human chick started fussing. I love that he stops crying as soon as he sees me.

Do you not own an incubator, woman?! If you want chicks, go hatch something!

I love brooding chicks outdoors. I have some SQ Buff Silkies under a heat lamp out at the barn.
