Ouch. Might be time to check into one of those ambulance chasers that advertise on TV.
Does the farm have the capital to be any help finanacially if you do?
Do they have a reputable insurance provider?

Worker comp cases are a royal pain and take ages to resolve. Did the hospital refer Jeff to anyone for follow-up care?

Farm - yes.
Don't know the insurance info
yes the ER Dr wanted him seen by some other doctor jeff called to make the appointment but they wanted around $200 up front since we don't have health insurance. So he didn't go.

Jeff probably should've called the farm and asked them to front the $200. Then they could ask their insuraqnce company to cover it.
Maybe you could try that and see what they say. You have to try something because there is obviously a serious problem if he's experiencing such serious headaches. You're right; he's too young to be in this condition! And if he was in perfect health before this, then the farm where he was injured needs to do right by him.

Sure wish I could buy a horse from you. I'd dearly love to have a horse <sigh>

thanks. That's why we are pursuing it. Jeff was like - oh well, that's horse. But the pain is going to be long term from everything we have heard by folks who have had similar injuries. I talked with a lady who owns a farm in town and she was really pushing me to do this. She said the worker's comp should cover all of it and it's the right thing to do for Jeff and his health. He can't even go to get treatment since we have no insurance and he has no job. No one will look at him. I hate the idea of suing anyone. It goes against my inner desire to be self sufficient, but to see him in pain it's not right.

No, its not right to leave him in pain.

But I'd start with the farm responsible first, contact them and ask nicely for their assistance. Document exactly what they say in responce. Maybe they will do right, and just didn't understand that there was a real problem (since he didn't do the follow-up care).
If they are unsupportive then you have to do right by Jeff. I'm not one of those people who says 'sue them' to every person with an issue. Yours is a legitimate issue though, and you won't be suing if the other party does the right thing.

I know you really don't need this on top of all the other financial issues going on.
BUT, would you have these issues if not for Jeff's injury? Sounds like getting hurt is what impacted your budget, since he can't really work much right now due to the pain.

Make copes of any paperwork you can, and also document any conversations with the farm. Then go from there. Here's more

because it won't be easy.

And BTW, talk to your neighbor and get her advice. The little I know from working HR is nothing compared to what LadyHawk knows about legal issues in general.

If not for him getting hurt, we'd be in good shape. He was clearing $650 a week. That was our horse money for the past few months to cover board and breeding. He had housing squared away up there and I was set down here until all this happened.

My thing about the farm is, if they were gonna do the right thing, they would have. They told him they would pay him for three weeks subsequent to the injury. They didn't. They paid him one check and I guess that was supposed to be compensation? The Hospital bill for the ER visit is over $4000. Not to mention we have no cash for him to be rechecked and the dental work he now needs since the backs of his molars were broken off when he got kicked. And that is is only the short term type stuff.

I just hope they won't put up a huge fuss and we can just meet a settlement amount and move on. I just want to pay my bills and get him to the doctor and dentist. None of that is outrageous amounts.
