Well, a word to the wise......if you get the ones with wing protectors, your chickens might freak out. My White Leghorn gals have the worn wing area from the roosters. They are also quite wild. I tried using those on them and they spent their days running around the yard at full speed squawking....crazy saddle wing protectors were "chasing" them apparently. Regular saddles didn't seem to bother them.
I think they are adorable. I went and bout TONS of fat quarters and my sister was roped into making them. Quite honestly, once you include the cost of fabric, elastic and snaps, they aren't really any cheaper than the ones from lovemychix. But I was able to get them in really cute fabrics.
They really do work well and don't seem to really bother the birds. They also work well to cover any wounds on the back to keep other birds from picking. My big Jersey Giant girl got her back sliced open by a rooster.....the saddle kept it covered enough to scab over and heal without having to separate her.
