I live to get rid of stuff, I swear. My house is very Scandanavian, it's not cluttered at all and we have very little in the way of knick-knacky type stuff...less and less all the time, in fact. I find that the older I get, the less I value "stuff" and the more I value experiences. I can't have experiences if I spend all my money and time on stuff!

I think that's a very healthy outlook! Our house is very neat, no clutter, everything put away. That's my dh's influence, and I have to say, I enjoy it as well. Actually, the fact that his room was always SPOTLESS when we dated (even if I came over without warning), is one of the reasons I was so happy with him. His room was always so much more comfortable than mine (which was a dump heap, no lie), such a nice difference from mine, made me go over there a lot more than I probably would have otherwise when we were getting to know each other (we were friends for several months before we started dating in high school).

Actually, my dh is so perfect, all other dh's pale in comparison.

I recently cleaned out the pantry and threw away more food than I kept. I had food that expired in 2008

I'm going to try to use up what I have and buy it more on an "as needed" basis instead of "hoarding it".

Yep, when dh deployed for the first time, I ended up with 300 some chickens, and about 40 milkers. That doesn't count eggs in the 'bator, or chicks being brooded, or kids/non-milking goats. Like I said, he keeps my insanity in check. When he isn't here, well, it can get pretty crazy. I also had a full time job at the time. So, I count it as partial hoarding and partial taking up time while dh wasn't around to keep my out of trouble. The only difference would be that ALL my animals were cared for, twice a day. And I NEVER had more than I could feed. It's one thing to hoard clothes in the closet that you ignore, and completely different to hoard animals that you can't afford to keep.

After dh came home, I sold down to about twenty chickens and 8 milkers. I want to spend time with him, after all.

That's great Kel. When we first moved here we got 2 20 yard dumpsters and went over the weight by 600 and 700 lbs that we had to pay extra for. I went gung ho on the garage last fall and I have 2 huge piles under tarps that I wasn't able to tend to before it snowed and that is of scrap metal and stuff for a reclamation center to dispose of properly.

Soon as it thaws I'll be able to clean out the old coop and put all the outside toys in there. And my friends dad bought nearly all my dad's equiptment--woodworking and welder so now I have my wood shop to finish clearing and cleaning. So I'll have more room. I'd like to make that area my honey house and get into bees again. Can you imagine what it will be like to be able to park into the garage? wow!

It took me a long time to clean out all the cubbies in this old cape cod house and some cubbies the insulation was falling down and ick, I did not enjoy that. It was hard cleaning out my dad's "office" things from his engineering job and his home office. It's hard to part with things after someone passes away. But I was able to and sometimes I still question if I did the right thing. The one thing that I got rid of were these HUGE charactature drawings the draftsman made of my dad and fellow buddies and they were hilarious! But I thought, I don't want to hang them up in any room and if the basement didn't flood and was finished off like it used to be...then I would have down there as a rec room. But I tossed them. We burned things too...old wood stuff that was no good anymore...warped... Then there was all of my mom's teaching boxes and I was homeschooling for a while so I kept those around but now have just kept a couple of things that seem of value to my girls, like sheets of drawing paper... and threw away the rest. Just to think about how much work mom put into her teaching and then all the research papers....but really, I don't need it and it takes up space.

Mom keeps bringing me clothes and I'm drowning in baskets of it. I have pulled about 8 baskets of baby clothes to gift to one of my Bible study moms. And my porch is filling up with the next load to salvation army...they will come to my house and pick up in a big moving truck...I just want to get EVERYTHING there on the porch before I call them and set up a time. So much to do and you all are distracting me.

I hear ya. I haven't worked full time in over a year, so we no longer have the money to finance my hoarding. I guess it's a good thing. I recently found some Pepto that expired in '05
