We woke up early, went for a moonlit hot tub in the tower before coming down to begin our day.

Tom's off to work and I'm headed for the shower. Kids went to visit thier dad for Spring Break, flew out on Saturday. It's so nice and quiet and peaceful.... ahhh

That looks like a tasty bunny....

I am sooooooooooo tired today.

Went to Ostrich Festival friday. 6 hours of rides.
Company came in Saturday morning: 10 people, 1 bathroom, 4 small-small children.
Had a chick hatch early last night at 10 pm. Had to scramble to get it a clean brooder and shift the meaties to their new home.
Went to bed at midnight, with the windows open.
Couldn't sleep until 2 am.
Mine and my neighbors' roosters started competing for Ultimate Crow Dominance at 3:45 am.
At work by 7:30.

I don't think I could pump enough coffee intravenously to wake my self up.

Looks like a baby lavender on the right side??

So, Friday we went to Casa de Beaner and got doggy love (also doggy footy prints on my jeans, but I wore the pre-chickened jeans that were already somewhat dirty). Frankie is cute, Molly is adorable.
That night I doscovered that for some unknown reason, my calico sillkie roo, Spikely, had died. He was an adorable, loveable boy, very sweet and friendly. So I was sad. Spikely is now buried under an oak sapling....

The brooder fit on the truck, complete with legs. But DH whacked off the legs when we got home and used them to make the shelf under the brooder. So the brooder is on a high shelf, and has a shelf beneath is with space for a tub to be used as a drawer underneath? Make sense? If not, I can get pictures eventually....

I didn't feel good Friday. I felt worse Saturday. But is was a lovely day, and I expected rain on Sunday. So I helped DH install the brooder, and played with the chickens.
The it didn't rain Sunday, and was a gorgeous day. So I spent a lot of time outside again, playing with chickens and letting them free-range.

Also, on Sunday, I did an egg-topsy. Oscar wasn't acting alive, so I tapped a hole in the air-cell end. The whole time I was tapping, DD was screeching, "You're killing it! You're killing it!" I finally turned and said, "If I were killing it, the baby would be screaming louder than YOU! Do you hear anything?" She didn't, and neither did I. SO DH held the egg and I dremeled an opening about the size of a silver dollar arounf the hole I'd tapped. No emu.
When I dumped it out (

not a chore I recommend if you aren't feeling well already) it was obvious that Oscar had left us about 2-weeks or so into incubation.

I washed out the egg really well, and have it drying out now.
A good thing about being terribly stopped up was that the smell never hit me. Hit DH though. He was not amused.....

So Esmerelda is currently alone in the bator..... Until Eduardo arrives from AZ

Do you have room for 2? I bought an extra egg for my boss, in case she wanted to try one, but if she DOESN'T, I can ship you an Edgar as well.

Keep in mind, my boss may want the egg to take home for eatin'. But I don't want to ship 2 if you dont have room.

I'd gladly take 2!

As long as Beaner isn't in any hurry to get her bator back

Of course, it's less clutter and helps her not hatch a BAZILLION new chickens....

I did some rearranging of my bators. Since we're finally up on rain, I moved the emu-bator into the basement, and my other bators to the garage. The garage is maintaining a 40-50% humidity range, and the house maintains around 30%. I wasn't worried about the higher humidity while I thought Oscar might be hatching, but Esmerelda needs less and now she's getting less again.

I have way too many eggs due to hatch tomorrow thru Wednesday. Since I didn't expect the shipped eggs to do well I set a BUNCH of silkie and project eggs

And she's going to EAT it???

Poor baby. Did you tell her it was fertile?

Those shells, BTW, are a beyotch to crack open. As I dremeled DH commented that it smelled a lot like a bad trip to the dentist..... (that was before the dead baby evacuation)

I know, I blew out two eggs last year. I had to use a tap-con to do it.

I have pictures of the hubby trying to blow it out. HILARIOUS!
