Well today should be interesting. Isn't there a full moon coming up? That's when all the freaks and geeks come out and even the "normal" ones say & do some really weird stuff.

Continuing my saga from yesterday... Once upon a time there was a local government department that was all messed up. 2 of the divisions would pass the same piece of paper back and forth 5 or 6 times for "review" before someone finally called it "approved". Then the new Director came to town and she watched this circus and said "Enough! This system doesn't work." And so she shuffled the deck. She learned which ones she could count on to make good decisions and she let them make them, she made sure there was checks and balances for those who were so ingrained in "the old ways" that they couldn't see the forest for the trees. Well these simple changes were much too abrupt for one small division so they freaked out and flew into a bizzurker rage. It was like a scene from any horror flick. No matter how many times the scary music came on they just kept walking into the dark room. Eventually, the biker-lady started to notice that if you followed them, you got whacked, but if you came back to where the reasonable, free-thinking people were, you got bathed in golden light. Tough choice, whacked or bathed in golden light. What would you choose? Well Dorkboy and evil wench must be allergic to golden light because they will not get within a country mile of any bright spot. And they keep luring the doey-eyed one along with them (you know the type, can't think for herself, gotta follow the male, even if it's to yet another whacking) Anyway, This whole parade is led by the soon to retire bi-polar lush, we'll call him yo-yo man, and he makes decisions without the benefit of a crystal ball, or even a magic eight-ball, and most things he says have no basis in fact or reality. So this fairytale world has been nothing but stress and strife for the creative thinkers because they keep seeing problems with seemingly easy solutions but every time they blink dorkboy and evil wench rally doey-eyed girl and yo-yo man into battle. The creative thinkers are sort of entertained watching this group fight imaginary shadows but at the same time it's frustrating and maddening having to watch out for the witless wonders as they flail with real swords. Who lets them have sharp objects? Well the new Director thinks that if the whole group sees shadows, there may actually be shadows, so we should all be called in to long periods of inactivity (aka meetings) to discuss why the free thinkers and the children of the corn cannot be blended into one big rainbow of joy.

Welcome to my world. This has been the last 8 months of my life. Today, the children of the corn are under the gun. After months of foot stomping and bickering they have finally realized that the free thinkers out number them and they are being laughed at. They were angry when biker-lady came into the light, and now doey-eyed girl has got a little bit of a suntan, and although she's walking the line between light and dark, it's only a matter of time till she realizes no one whacks her in the light. Now Yo-yo man had announced that he is retiring in just 42 days. The children will no longer have their champion. Their darkness is shrinking, the light is spreading, and they are completely without sunscreen. Dorkboy has asked Sergeant Fenster, my partner in crime, to facilitate the reorganization of their work flow, or, more accurately, lack of flow. I'm dressing her in the best Kevlar money can buy, and sending in biker-girl as back-up, but I still fear for her safety. I have every confidence in her skills, but I've learned never to under estimate just how low the children of the corn can stoop. Evil wench is the little sister of the HR lady and not one to be under estimated. Logic does not work on her, as she has no common sense or reason, and is known to lash out with little or no provocation. I'll be close by, listening, the first hint of trouble and I'm goin in!

This morning, there will be a gathering of our little band; myself, Sergeant Fenster and possibly Right-of-way man (if he's feeling better, he's been ill) and the children of the corn plus the Director has solicited participation from the two who are hopefuls in replacing yo-yo man upon his retirement. the young, strategic free thinker geek-boy, and the older and bitter self serving woman who might be one of the shadows in the dark, and in either case, cannot be trusted. This aught to be good. We are establishing a course of action that our group must follow. The good outnumber, and out smart, the evil, our tactic is to let the meltdown begin which will effectively expose the crybabies for what they are, if doey-eyed girl is smart she'll stay on the side with the light, the Director is getting fed up with having to battle the same shadows. Once the children stomp off into the corn, those that remain can make up the rules without input from crybabies.

The end.

I try to get the students to eat more fruit and veggies. We offer it fresh daily, and have for years.

I tell them 'An apple a day keeps the doctor away'
and
Oranges have vitamin C, helps fight colds and flu.
and Carrots have vitamin A, to keep your eyes healthy.

Can you help me think of more things to say?

For years it has been my job to talk about fruit and veggies as they pass through the lunch line.

I need a good saying for broccoli, to make more kids want to eat it.
The younger ones are pretty good at taking it, but the 5th and 6th graders, they say they are hungry, and want another burger or pizza or chicken, I tell them they need to eat a balanced diet in order to feel less hungry.
Some of them do not know what I mean by a balanced diet.
I tell them to select food from each food group at each meal. And I have food pyramid charts posted.

At our schools, our breads are whole grain, as in burger buns, bagels, pan dulce, muffins, graham crackers, whatever.
Our foods are low sodium, low fat, low sugar.
Even frosted flakes are low sugar.
We've been doing this for years.
Hot cheetos are baked, as all chips we serve.
These foods are made especially for school food service.

There is a bad rap about school lunches being unhealthy.
But CA leads the way for healthy lunches and breakfasts.
And that 'whats his face guy' commended us on our efforts!
You know, the one that goes around saying how unhealthy school lunches are.
In person, I saw him at conference.

Even the P&J sandwiches are whole grain and low sugar.

And fresh fruit and veggies are offered at breakfast and lunch, daily.
I wash tons of apples every day, and oranges, and slice all those oranges, daily.
And it comes from local farmers.
I make shaker salads fresh every day.

Our juices are 100% juice, milk low in fat, I think it is 2%.
And chocolate milk is 1%, but they can not have it for breakfast.
At breakfast they are offered a milk and fruit on M W F and T and TH they get milk and juice, with whatever is on the menu that day.

Sometimes students will come in during recess and say they are really hungry, I give them an apple.

At the elementary school, I am allowed to do that ( I think), its all about promoting fruits and veggies.
We used to have a pilot program for 3 years, that all students could have free fruit at recess, so although we no longer have that grant, I still do it, if they come in and ask.
And I tell them all they have to do is take one bite, they do not get in trouble if they can not finish it, because, I never want them to be afraid to eat fruit.
I have a garden bar at the end of the lunch line, they help themselves. I keep it clean, wipe it down constantly, change the tongs after each grade, etc, refill often, try to make it look pretty. And every student has to pass by it to get tot he tables, hoping more and more of them will take the fruit and veggies on it.
Its working, slowly.

NO silly Laree. Pontius Piolate via the Romans crusified the big J. The Jews just brow beat him into it.

On a side note, I still believe I was pontious Pilate in my past life - hence my crappy current life.

At bare minimum I was the marques de sade or amarie antoinette.

Politics aside, that is my whole point. It's not like the mom is doing all the bashing here.
