She was a VERY loud hen. TONS of personality. When i get ducks again ill definantly be getting some more buffs. EXCELLENT mothers.

I guess I can post in this thread. I just got a pair of "Blue Fawns" (I am lovingly dubbing them...all they are, are mutts

But doesn't that sound like it hurts their feelings?)

The hen is the lighter one, the drake is the darker one, both have blue on them. They are gorgeous! And theres as scovy in there with adopted parents. She quacks kinda loud, but only does it when i'm trying to pick her up haha!

I posted a thread a little over a week ago with some pictures of my buff ducks. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=388240 Buffs do have very beautiful coloring, though I think if I get more ducks in the future I'd like to try a different breed.

One of my females never stops talking, though it's more of a soft peepy squeak than a loud quack. My other female is generally quiet. Unless of course they want something - than they'll quack loud enough for me to hear across the street.

They do love having me around and will follow to go foraging (and will quack loudly if I'm not there whenever they want me to be with them) but they won't tolerate being held. They will forage around my feet if I'm finding them good eats so it'd be easy to pick them up...I usually don't though. They're a little flighty around other people besides me and a couple of others if they get too close.

I got mine from Ideal and i think you can also get them from metzers and mcmurray. I'm not sure where you could get non-hatchery stock though if you care about that.

Right now they're molting so I don't have a lot of pictures of them, though here are some of them sleeping about a week and a half ago. The male is starting to get much darker feathers on his head.

Cheers!

Where did you get your Buffs? I like the look of your drake, he has good color. Do you ever offer hatching eggs? I'll be looking for them over the next few months, to next spring.

I got my Buffs from Metzer farms. I have always liked Metzer Farm's ducks. When I ordered them I got eleven, so as far as quality goes there was a variety. I gave away some males that didn't have good color or type, but I kept most of my females. However, over the years my Buff flock has been drastically reduced by predators. I still have Puffy, though. But I am afraid I don't offer hatching eggs. Sorry.

But I would encourage getting Buffs from Metzer Farms. I have never ordered from any other hatcheries before, so I am a little biased, but it still stands that I have never needed to order from any other hatchery.

Now that I think of it, Metzer does offer hatching eggs, too.

BTW, rangersilme, I love the pictures of your Buffs! The one with the crest is adorable. It looks like a little pompadour.

:(we lost our buff female to a fox last month. Our male is lost without her. I have been trying to find an adult buff for him but have had no luck yet. I did get him two mallard mix females but their personalities are so different
So I continue to look for an adult female buff in NY or Pa. Any help would be appreciateb by Mr. Quackers and me.

I have what I belive to be a drake and a hen buff ducks. They are spectacular! I love them! I sit out in the back yard and watch them swim and get crazy in their pond!!! They are the best! Of course they are the first ducks I have ever had!!! Not sure if both are female or ones a male and ones a female. I do know for sure that 1 is a female. She is very petite! (Her name is Quackers) The other one is much larger and is changing colors with the dark neck a marone colored spot on the top of the head.(His name is Cheese

) IM not to sure when they are supposed to develop their sex feather though.. Wish I did. lol
