Ended Official BYC 2023 Summer Fair Contest—Artwork Contest

Good point. I don't know if the risk is greater or less than any other artwork peeps might upload and claim is their own, no?

Meaning, someone could grab an image from another site as easily as an STL, no?
I would say probably less risk, actually. it's fairly niche as an art form still. People are just really getting into it and you know what the learning curve looks like for even the simple cad software products. Thing is, for images, we have ways to check authenticity. For stl files, not so much.

I'm not opposed to it, I just needed to bring it up since it's uncharted territory for us here at BYC.

Well, I was going to enter the first piece of artwork, but I guess I’ll have to settle for second :p

Horse head, graphite drawing.

It would put a more restrictive limit on the timeframe of these creations, but perhaps requiring WIP screenshots of the native CAD file as it's being developed? At least in SOLIDWORKS it's readily evident whether it's truly in progress or just rolled back. That would also help with authenticity as many downloaded models (especially off model supply websites, McMaster-Carr etc) show "imported body" on the native file instead of a feature tree.

I don't love that idea, and it's not foolproof, but it's a thought. :idunno

The other thing to kinda consider here is this is a chicken forum. Yes, the prizes have a tangible value (here), but you're not retiring to a private beach some place from winning a contest (and no offense intended in that, the prizes we offer are fair and appropriate for BYC). If someone's determined to resort to cheating to win a contest here, they aren't going to be deterred by any security we implement. Nothing is ever foolproof, fools are far more inventive than they're given credit for. We'll either catch them or we won't.

I would say "Be prepared to show your work if asked" is probably fair, and yeah, some in-progress screenies would suffice in that instance. I will defer to staff if they have other ideas, of course.

I put these pics in another thread about a week ago, but the medium I used is very BackyardChicken... This is a blown brown chicken egg carved with a handpiece (like a Dremel) Set on a hemp covered wire, with fimo clay thorns. It was nerve-wracking but made a great gift for a dear friend 😊
Are you going to enter these for the contest? If so please see rule number 1, One image per post. The first entry of the contest thread has all the details on how to enter.

Thanks!
