My husband is obsessed with Rain-X.
When I used to drive OTR. I’d get just about 25-30K miles on the windshield applications during the summer months.
On personal vehicles I usually get 3-6 months between re-applications here in TX (year round). And this is pretty stable over the last 20 odd years.

Odd note. Rear windows might last 2 months before a extra layer is needed. Which is really considering the direct wind force (friction) on the windshield made me surprised that it always lasts longer. Especially on our minivans.

It’s a loose wire…..and it usually waits for rain to decide to not work
That’s the situation that brought Rain-x to my attention back when I was 19, stationed at NAS JAX. The wiper switch would blow fuses like made. After a week of blowing at least a dozen fuses. I asked an “AE” (electrician) in the squadron if they had a spare 10AMP button breaker I could borrow for a few weeks while I troubleshoot this wiper mystery. Took me most of the summer to finally find it. Meanwhile I learned of Rain-X during this fiasco….
Back then, I had bought my Grandparents car, 1977 Cadillac Coup de Ville. The actual aerodynamics were fascinating. 30 mph big drops would start to move & by 34 mph all would slide off the windshield…

The ‘99 f350’s is a bit slower… ~38-40MPH when they start to move.
