Ended Official BYC Contest - Worst Chicken Molt Pictures - Fall-Winter 2016

Pin feathers are the new feathers growing in. They push the old feathers out. If she were molting, she should be covered in them.

Rizzo has not even begun to grow any new feathers. And Fancy, in the photo I had posted, also hadn't begun to grow any new feathers yet. In fact, she looked that horrible for over two weeks, which probably wasn't so bad since we were suffering a horrendous heat wave of 100+ degree temps all the way through October.

This is Fancy just moments ago:

I do not suffer chronic feather pickers within my flocks. All of my chickens will peck slightly when those rich, blood-filled feathers start coming in, but I always supply extra animal protein to my birds to minimize this tendency. If one of my birds continues to show chronic feather picking behavior I cull it.

My mother's frizzle should be censored.

Well after Rizzo^^^ I think the contest is over!

But here's mine:

For All Other Breeds, Stevie, my Easter egger. She's 5 years old and is reliably the ugliest molter of rhe flock every year. Wish I could submit a pic from a few years ago though...

I love how stately Stevie looks as if to say "I meant to look this way, darling. It's the latest."

Stevie does have the attitude to carry this off. Looks like she could do runway modeling and other chickens would celebrate her dignity and good looks.
