THE CIDER SHACK

IMG_3883.jpg

Our first ever coop is DONE (well, almost...kinda. It's never going to be done. But that's ok, cause it's been so much fun to do this).

Hope you enjoy it. Big thanks to @fireguy56s original build that was a good bit of my inspiration for my build. I have designs/sketches at home that I'll upload to my build post at some point (away at the moment).

Thanks ya'll for all your support/inspiration. We started with 16 chickens, and actually, because of what we built, we're now rescuing (first rescue chicken is on my shoulder in my profile pic actually) other girls.

Link to the build here <---

While reading @R2elk’s comment about this being the last contest Sumi was part of, I felt perhaps she would have appreciated my perseverance on a 6 year long project building my coop and decided to enter the contest. My project is well on its way to being finished other than automating the food and water systems, and installing an electric hot wire fence. I will eventually add a circular 550’ run I call “The Moat Project”. When the 25 chicks arrived in April I was motivated to accelerate the project by prioritizing and completing the necessary steps to keep them healthy and safe. This “Woods” style coop is mobile and has excellent air circulation whether it’s pouring down rain or over 80 degrees. It has polycarbonate panels on one of the two roofs (with hardware cloth underneath). The coop is light, bright and airy even on gloomy Oregon days. Me and the chickens are thrilled with the results.

Here’s my link.
