Official BYC Poll: Do You Keep a Rooster?

My boys have been crowing before sunrise (which is a little after six at this time of year). Soon as I'm out there with my flashlight they are crowing up a storm on those roosts XD. Wouldn't have it any other way.

At some point use for roosters could be characterized. Some roosters never reach adulthood. Some not really used for breeding. Then you get into how they are kept and for how long.

My other ones started around like 6 I think or sometimes 5:30 or. 7. Not too early basically. But 430 is just ridiculous LOL my parents hate it and him

I have about 30 roosters to my 10 hens.

I think the girls need that many boys around to keep them inline.

I also like the crowing, I find it comforting.

2 of our 6 female sexed chicks turned out to be males.

Same with us, so far only 2/5 of our SS, luckily we have enough girls to keep them covered.

I have one rooster. We technically aren’t supposed to have him, but we got one of those no-crow collars and he’s been doing well and hasn’t been bothering the neighbors. He just started crowing and mating last month, he’s almost 19 weeks old. He’s a lavender orpington and if a real sweetheart, though lately he’s been getting a bit mean to the ladies. Hopefully he’ll grow out of it though as the older girls put him in his place

I hatched 9 chicks recently.
7 are cockerels!

All my D'Uccle chicks are always cockerels!
