Our girls "free range" in our side yard all day. They have several shaded areas and bushes they will rest under. They love cold berries or watermelon. The summers in Texas can be brutal, so we put an outdoor mister fan that blows over their favorite afternoon spot. I've seen one go put her face right in front of the mister for a few seconds when it was 108 degrees.

Our girls free range in the daytime. They have plenty of places to hide including shrubberies; but by early afternoon, they start hanging-out by the house, next to the crawl space vent, where they can get cool air.
First they go to the kitchen side, where they beg for lunch. Then they move to the vent on the other side next to the bedroomlater in the afternoon.
I also put ice blocks from plastic cups or 16 oz plastic containers in their water stations, as well as plenty of fruit that we happen to have around.

We’re in SE Texas and it’s very hot and humid so heat is a big issue. I have a small coop and run. I tried misters once but it mainly made mud. So I run a fan and in the heat of the afternoon I give the girls a large water pan that I add frozen water bottles to. There’s also lots of shade cloth. The coop has a sand floor which I pour water onto. They like to dig down into it as it’s cooler
