Official BYC Poll: How do you name your pet chickens?

It is extremely rewarding to name your chickens, transforming them from just egg-laying machines to house pets.

Despite the fact that there is no shortage of human names, you might want to give your chickens a more creative name. As with people, each chicken has their own unique personality. Chickens also have fine memories. Whenever you call out their names, they will come running, particularly if it is because food is in sight.

So we would like to find out: How do you name your pet chickens?

I name my chickens after people I know...some are pleased and some not so much.

The name just pops up in my head. And maybe by personality (I have a girl named Huggy) and also by appearance

Things that relate to them. like I have one named "Carrie", short for "Caribbean Rumchata" because I brought him home from the show I bought him at in a borrowed Caribbean Rumchata box.

Most of mine dont have names as I keep the good names for my budgies and chickens I sell more then keep.

My niece named this bunch of chickens I have. But chickens are not pets to me, I only name them so my husband knows who I'm talking about if needed!

I generally don't name my birds, because they come and go from the flock and I often can't tell them apart anyway. Roosters though - because it's a love/hate relationship with them anyway, they get demon names. The RIR in my profile pic is Mephistopheles.

I name just random names that seem to suit different hens

No special system here. I've named one after a dog I met, one after another chicken in a long thread here on BYC. "Little" was the littlest chick, but isn't any more, though she lays the littlest eggs!

Most of my hens have names that just kind of popped into my head, but my Silkies get food names, and recently I’ve started using names of movie characters. For some reason I tend to name them in pairs
My current flock includes Silkies PuffPuff and Wasabi, Barred Rocks Pippa and Peggy, Polish Cruella and Estella (CeCe and Stella for short), and a few who have yet to be named. Past names include gems such as Cheese, Cashew (who only responded to Pig) and BonBon, Owl and Chipmunk, and Peep and RePeep.
