Official BYC Poll: How Old Is / Was Your Oldest Chicken?

On the question how old is/was your oldest chicken...I stated my 3 oldest hens were Black Orpingtons. After posting,I realized I wrote the wrong breed.. They are Black Austrolorps..

We started our present flock 4 years ago so those are our oldest hens while we've added new & improved models annually. So far only our roosters are invited into the kitchen & by free ranging they don't have to keep up with the younger generations to keep around. Generally, if they don't crow they have a home but once a hen starts crowing then it'll be off to the kitchen.

Here is my OEGB teaching her peachick that she hatched to eat mealworms. I think she was 6 or 7 in this video and lived to be 10 or 11.

That is so sweet I could never imagine one of our hens not just eating every treat they find! Hormones do funny things. Sharing knowledge and resources with her baby is so cute to see.

I have a White Crested Blue Polish that is 13 years young this year. Love her to death she is crazy!

My RIR Ol’ Red is 6 years old know. We got her from a friend and her flock was killed twice by a predator. He decided she needed to be rehomed. She wasn’t laying eggs for him, but she has laid pretty regularly since we have had her.

I am relatively new to chicken keeping (even though I study about them a lot) so I haven't had any deaths yet (hopefully not soon) my oldest hen is nearly a year old

A poll is something eldse than people asking advice with a problem.

Started my flock 2017 still have some maybe a few or more I got at beginning of my chicken flock in February or March 2017 at least the geese, one or two ducks a turkey and couple chicken from 2017 and some I hatched that year to
