I used 1/2" hardware cloth to cover all the openings, vents and make an apron around a 75 sq ft coop and run so I could leave the door open. They have another run thats twice as big as the first but they only have access to it after I wake up .Free ranging isn't possible here.

I have not ever lost a chicken to a predator.
Exept one
Back when my brother was really, really little, My mom was working in the yard and he decided he would 'hug' the chickens
...
He broke one my hen's ribs, 😰 , But he was only a little boy, so...

We’ve lost the most volume of chickens to dogs and foxes, but raccoons are the most pain in the butt. So cunning!

We have loads of hawks here, but for some reason they never bother our chickens. Granted the chickens are bigger than most of the hawks.

Raccoons and foxes. That’s why it is so important that you inspect your run so closely in and little gap close it however you can either with wire or rope or something really sturdy that they can’t chew through. I’m sorry they got so many of your birds. Mine have been taken by foxes raccoons and hawks so I never let them out now unless I’m with them unfortunately. My eggs seem to be best the more my birds free range

Hi, I don’t understand. Covering the vents…isn’t that for air circulation? Ours are covered with chicken wire.
