I forgot to mention.....

The more chickens you have the crazier people think you are and the less likely they are to hang around.
Yes, indeed! Yet another reason to get them.
For me, owning chickens just confirms that I'm a nutter....
Makes social distancing easier, haha!

Rooster crowing helps me sleep? Why isn't that on the list? Chicken vocalization really tells me so much about my local environment.

Who here hasn't run out of the house in their undies at 3AM because the chicken told them to do it?:th
I run out there more times than I care to admit - in all kinds of weather!!!

It's mostly pets and eggs for me. I have always loved birds, and chickens just seem so fluffy, and bright, and talkative it's hard not to want them around! Just watching them brightens up my day. After a couple of coop cleanings my Mom decided we should try composting since she loves to garden. So I checked the fertilizer box as well. We're on our first flock so the eggs haven't started to materialize yet. The whole family is waiting on that particular benefit. My brother says he'll care about the chickens when they start laying. He's missing out on some hilarious shenanigans as they grow up!

We got them initially as pets, inspired by a lady at a farm where we go camping. (I must admit I thought my hubby was crazy when he first suggested getting chickens. ) Eggs are a bonus, the chatter, company and love they bring is heartwarming, and I didn't realise when we got them how much therapy they provide! I suffer with depression and excruciating anxiety, but when I started hugging, petting cuddling and chatting with my girls, over time they have given me tremendous relief and really help me a lot, just when one waddles up to me...Plus their antics are so funny! Chicken cuddles are THE best and no one understands until you've experienced chicken love, so thanks to every one of my chooks who I love with every bit of my heart ❤❤❤❤Daphne, Velma Sylvie, Honey, Alice, Connie, Stella, Domino , Fred, Ginger and the Pingus.
