Official Christmas Hatch! c'mon and join

I'm not sure what the rules are for the name game. Do the names have to have something to do with Christmas? I mentioned to my DH I'd seen your names so far, and he offered these because they begin with D.

Daniel, which means my judge is the Lord
Darius, which means king, but I'm not sure what language.
Deacon, a servant or messenger, often a member of lay clergy
Dempe, which means peace
Dominic, which means of the Lord

Yes, we played this game in the Halloween Hatch party thread. Just some fun, to waste time, while we wait for our hatch. We are coming up with names for our chicks (in theory LOL) ... this time, Christmas related. Yes, those are great ones! I hope I get a Daniel! Love that name!

OK.... I did it! I candled. I got a new flashlight, and had to try it out!

I got a Coleman MAX, 115 Lumens LED Ultra Bright. It works great, though is a bit pricey.

On my Black Copper Marans I could see development, not exactly veining. They are on day 12. I think there are 3 clears out of 28.

On part 2 (Heritage Delawares and baby Suedes) of the staggered hatch (on day 8), I could see veining. It looks like 2 clears out of 27.

On part 3 (White Faced Black Spanish) I could see veining (on day 6). I think I have 1 or 2 clears, out of 12 on them.

I did not pick up the eggs. I just held the flashlight over the tops of the eggs. I have misplaced my electric candleing light. I know I put it away some place safe, where I would remember. I just can't recall where that is!

I have also candled. I did not pick mine up either. Of the 14 Buff Orpingtons 4 look clear, the rest are developing and swimming around, and out of 9 Ameraucana eggs it looks like 2 are clear. A couple of the shells are so thick it's hard to tell.

Mine are due on Dec. 24th, as they went into the incubator late on Dec. 3rd; would still like to join in for a possible Christmas Eve hatch. Just learned about "dry incubation" method & am using that on this batch. Wish me luck in being brave when it comes to lockdown, as not to open it till after hatchings to keep the humidity at 55%; don't want to see any "shrink wrapped" chicks this time at hatching. I'm happily surprised they're doing well after the 4 day trip in the USPS trucks during freezing weather conditions. Just candled & have 7 good eggs (could see a couple of them wiggling) out of 10 Bantam Blue Salmon Faverolles eggs. Best wishes to everyone!

I candled one egg today ( I've heard it's bad for them ) we're on day 12 and I don't know what I am looking at, so if anyone has any photos could they please show me what the eggs are supposed to look like.

I candled today as well, and did pick them up...out of 26 serama eggs, 10 were either clear or had blood rings. Since the participants are brand new to laying (and roostering), I'm not too surprised. One or two eggs are still in question, but I usually only candle on day 7 and day 14...I may candle again in a few days, just to make sure I don't have any exploders in the group! I put in another dozen yesterday, for a New Year's hatch!

HOw cute three chickens!!!
So I see everyone is having good fertility rates... and since 15/15 had veining a few days ago for me, I was wondering...what's the average percentage of fetilized and developings to usually hatch? Candled day 5 and had 15/15 with veining. Last night on day 7, I candled only the 4 in the front and they were all 4 swimming around, etc... so what do you think we be a "good" goal for me to hope for? 7/15, 5?...

What letter are we on for the name game, I would like to get in before I have to lock myself away from both the computer AND the incubator to study for my finals...ugh.

Looks like I am on the same time schedule as Save the Favs. This is my first time incubating. I did candle mine because being new- I wanted to see if there was any difference in them and try to learn what to look for. I hope I didn't mess things up. Having a REAL hard time keeping the temp right. Woke up this morning and it was down to 97.9. I have a digital electric heater sitting right next to it to help keep the outside air around it at a stable temp. I'm not sure what else I can do. Are flucuations in the temp by 3 or 4 degrees really horrible?
