I suprised my wife with an early xmas present, silkie eggs! We just put 15 silkie eggs in the bator last night and we're keeping our fingers crossed.

I am using folded paper towel, placed directly under the heating element away from the eggs. I've have humidity between 45-65% with this method. You can also use hot water to dampen your wick and it will also slow down the effects of evaporative cooling from adding water. You have to be vigilant, too. I'm adding water about every 4-6 hours to maintain humidity levels.

Fortunately, it is Christmas and we don't have to be anywhere.

you didnt fail... or if you did... so did I .... TWICE. Two hatches and one baby that only lived overnight. It had no neck muscles or leg control. Flopped. But I am still reading and learning and trying again.....

Not much room for chicks with thermometers, sponges, etc.

I have a quick question.. I put in 42 eggs the night before last. My hatch didnt do and someone gave me a lot of eggs so I set them. OK... I put them in after a LONG shift at work. The bator was holding steady for a long while at 102.. I put them in, about 10:30pm. went to bed, had to get up at 5:30 am for work. the temp was at about 108/ couldnt have been there very lone. ... a few hours at most. Question is.. am I screwed, or can this still work? I adjusted and it has held steady at 102 since then.

Corny when I come back from DS haircut and putting another batch of cookies in, I will try to do a video scan of my bator if you're here... prob around 1ish. PIcs are too hard as busy as these days are... Just rewet my sponges etc with HOT water and it's up to 59! but it also raised my temp to 102 as well. I am hoping the temp drops back down as I am not able to stick around and wait.... gotta run
