I have the pictures above of our dog Mason...he had TPLO surgery last week. Today I was walking him in the backyard and he saw a squirrel

He lunged forward and then collapsed on the ground...Looks like the other acl in his right knee tore...

This dog has me so stressed out an emtionally drained. We're taking him back to Gulf Coast Vet Specialists tomorrow and see what needs to be done now. He will probably need surgery on the right knee after the left one is completely healed. I know they said that this right knee might give out on him in the future, but I didn't think it would of happened right after he had surgery on his left! Ugh...I just don't know.

I'm so sorry to hear that!

It is normal for the other ACL to go sooner or later after the first has been repaired. He'll be OK. Gulf (Gold) Coast is a good clinic and TPLO has come a long way. It's just SO expensive. I ended up taking a dog up to A&M to get her knee rebuilt.

I'm hoping I go there and they just say he sprained something...but in reality I know he messed the other knee up. And yes the TPLO surgery was very expensive...We just couldn't bear the thought of putting him to sleep just bc his knee was messed up. His only 5 and hopefully still has many more years with us.

No reason to put him down! Gulf Coast is a very expensive place, is all, but they do good work. When I took one of my dogs there for an ultrasound of her heart and a very brief consultation I paid $325. It annoys me that they charge so much, but they obviously have to pay for their VERY nice facility. I took another for an ultrasound for pups and paid another $325 and then they wouldn't tell me how many pups they could see! What? Why do you want an ultrasound? To count pups so you know if one has been retained or not after birth. I just have mixed feelings about how much they charge. That is why we call them Gold Coast instead of Gulf Coast.

Poor Mason

I know what you are going through. My boy Radyen has horrible problems with his hips. But he can't have surgery because his elbows are also bad. So, at 8 years old, he already has extreme difficulty getting around. We do what we can, keeping his weight down and lots of swimming/low impact exercise to keep his muscles strong. Other than that we manage the pain as it comes. With the cold weather here, my poor baby has days when I have to help him down into the yard to go potty.

I know that one day I will have to make a decision that I don't want to make

Got back from gulf coast a while ago...And he did indeed completely tear his other acl!

Looks like another surgery after his left knee heals.

I just hope this isn't too much for him...

I'm sorry. My sister had a golden with knee problems.
I love GSDs I owned one about 14 or so years ago. Can't wait to get another some day.

Today we went to kill some time at Wal-Mart. We haven't been in a while
