Silkies are my FAVORITES! I wish I had pics of the girls we had at the Oregon Zoo. We took them to classrooms to educate kids about conservation and animals with the ZooMobile program, along with other education animals, like Muscovy ducks, many types of owls, opossums, ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, and snakes. The children loved petting the silkies and often asked what they were, thinking they were bunnies or mammals of some kind! They were the sweetest birds. We also had a Polish who was a hoot, and I have owned RIRs myself, but the silkies were my favorites.
I want to get one or two silkies (or showgirls, I love them both). I would love to have show-line birds, even if they're pet quality -- they just have much more attractive floof. Hehe.
But I really can't have more than two, and absolutely can't have a roo -- I'd get in soooo much trouble. I know baby silkies are almost impossible to sex. What age is the minimum for reliable sexing of silkies? All the silkies I'm seeing on local Craigslist are straight-run day olds.
