offshore fishing

nice trout and I bet that crevelle was a bugger on light tackle. We catch them offshore a lot in the 25-40 pound range, and aside from amber jacks, I dont think theres a harder pulling fish out there pound for pound.

Here's my hubby's marlin (catch and release) in Cabo this past year...

It was wonderful!!

nice cobia. We ran another trip out of St Simmons GA a few weeks ago. They are defiantely in. We had 4 in no time. Biggest was 75 lbs, the smallest was 50 ish.
Had some nice grouper, and some of those huge, near extinct (haha) red snapper. Oh on of my buddies also caught a huge nurse shark too. Never had caught one over there, much less 70 miles offshore, they are usually a near shore species.

Glad yall had a good trip too!!

Tell me about it,. My last trip was New Years Eve... Caught some nice blackfin, was still a bit early for the yellows. But that got our hopes up for the following weeks...well since then we havent had a decent day yet on the East coast or Gulf to go, no hunting in...I'm about to loose it. Leaset Turkey season starts here in a few weeks.
My boss booked us a trout and sheephead trip for this Friday, that will calm the nerves a bit, but not my cup of tea... I like the big stuff.
He does have us a Yellowfin Tuna trip booked for the 1st of April out of Venice LA to the oil rigs, so that will be more like it.
The Gulfstream is getting good too on the east coast down here so if the weather will break ever, we're ready. It's blowing with gust to 45 here at the house today though... Got to love March when you're an offshore guy!!

Plan to do a lot in the Destin area this summer once the east coast Gulf stream bit slows down. Hope to get some nice fish out of there, will be our first go round fishing that area, but I've been on Terrafin and several other sites learning the water and all as much as I can, ahead of time... I love that blue water fishing....

I did alot of pier fishing while stationed in Jacksonville, Fla. in the late 60's. Caught many speckled trout, blue and lady fish. Lots of red snapper in the St. Johns river. Hooked a sting ray one time. Lots of fond memories.
