Thanks. I'm going to miss her. She was pretty and an excellent layer (and she only started a few weeks ago

). Now we're down to two Gold Sex-Links. We started out with four, but lost one as a chick (still not sure why – no one else died).

Thank you – I hope is, too. He acts fine, but his tail still looks bad.

I guess I'm thinking it must have been a coyote. We have coyotes around here and I think we've lost two cats to them in the past. My other guess was be a fox, since Mr. Incredible actually got away. He's not very fast, and I wouldn't think a coyote would give up that easily. What scares me is that it happened in the day – between one in the afternoon and when I went out to shut them in for the night. I really hope we don't lose any more.

Thank you, everyone, again, for all your help! I really appreciate having the BYC folks to come to for advice!

Sounds like he's feeling pretty good. Keep an eye on that green area. If the area starts having pus, getting darker red and hot, or smelling you have an infection in the wound. It could just be bruising at this point. Oh, make sure you don't let him stay with the girls when you aren't there to supervise.

Yes – I don't want them to make it any worse. I bet he misses them, though.

He's a sweetie.

I realize this may be too late, but it sounds like the same type of injuries we were having. We lost three hens due to injuries similar to that before we put an outdoor camera inside the coop. To our relieve we had found the culprit, an opposum. After that we put hasps on the nest boxes so they couldn't get in the coop and ran an electric fence around the perimeter of the run.
Hope your baby is doing better!

Does the electric fence work? We had weasels once. We had to get them before they got the birds. We also had an opossum. So gross. They eat the guts out. I lock my coops at night. I had thought about an electric fence but wasn't sure about height etc.
