Oh boy, she’s a he!

He really is handsome! I'm glad he's friendly at the moment!!
As for the feather pecking, i can only think that he might be bored, or in too close proximity with other chickens. But, by the looks of it, he's allowed outside, so i really don’t know! Hopefully someone else might know.
He only seems to harass my oldest girl and the lowest girl on the totem pole…

I taught my girls to come when I call! They know that’s the only time they get treats from me, so they hightail it inside! 😂
Hi again! I just wanted to say that I’ve been doing supervised free range time for a week now using your trick and it’s awesome! They now only get treats when it’s time for them to go back into the run. I shake the treat bucket and they all come running!

They’re loving the free ranging and so am I! It’s so fun watching them scratch around in the leaves. The cockerel is hilarious. He watches the girls closely and if one strays too far, he uses his wing to herd her back to the group. It’s like herding cats and he has his hands full! Today he saw a predator and gave a call and they all dove for cover under the barn. I was so impressed! They came out shortly after once he gave the signal. For the record, it was a buzzard, not a hawk but I stand armed with a large net in case I need to scare off any hawks or eagles. With a shotgun nearby In case of serious ground predators.
