The commercial ones here are flooded low land where they can drain the water at will. It’s the same places they grow wild rice commercially.
I think they do that here too cause they have a big pump and tube and everything. And a pond but I’m not sure what the pond is for exactly... I guess to flood the bogs at harvest time ???

My swamp is a marsh then.. :lau :lau :lau :lau
I had Grampa's hip waders growing up to use. The marsh wrapped around their yard and I would go hunting with a net for different young fish and critters in the spring most years. Found some really strange stuff every now and then too. One memorable spring we found these "minnows" that looked like just like rainbow trout & were about 2" long. Kept them in the aquarium for about a month before returning them to the edge of the swamp where the lilly pads were at....

Are you planning on wallowing around in it? If not, consider it a swamp. For the people who wallow around in those types of places, there is a difference. For city people, swamp, bog, marsh, lowlands, quicksand, mire, quagmire, morass or wetland is simply a way to say, "stay away fool."

Think lots of water, bugs, snakes, creepy crawlies, mud and very little solid footing.

the rice fields usually have hard pan under 6 inches of mud. There will not be a bottom in some of these places.
