Evey rescue I have been to in the last few years will not let any dog go for less than $300 an these are not premium anything... I think the pound here is well over $100 to adopt a dog now too.
Well, you can come here and adopt a dog for 0$ all fees waived from a shelter. They'll even pay your licensing and hand you the vet records with a free comprehensive vet check to get you started. If you're up to it and you're pet is known to have epilepsy or need ongoing care they offer deep deep discounts on that too. We no longer have a pound that is open to the public as we have a 0 adopt policy for pitbulls in my area. All other dogs are turned over to the management of a local shelter if their owners don't come get them in 3 to 7 days. No license/no micro chip - surrendered after 72 hrs. / No claim on a licenses and chipped dog after 7 days - surrendered.
The only dogs over 200$ in this area are healthy surrendered pure breeds, toy breeds and dogs in high demand - a.k.a. labradoodles or other fashionable breeds.
You can pick up a mixed breed middle age lab mix for 80$ - confirmed healthy, fixed and up to date on shots. Or you can pick up a puppy for 150. I don't happen to like puppies as much as I do a dog with some social skills so I'd get the middle aged dog if I had the time to keep one happy. I could have gotten a 0$ senior dog too. The one I liked hated cats with an unbreakable passion so I didn't get to keep him either. I spent a lot of a time volunteering and even trying out home visits, while trying to figure out which dog was right for me. Ultimately I decided to put it off until I could fence the back area in instead of confining a dog inside my tiny back yard for most of its life.
You just need to ask when you go to the shelters near you if they have any dogs that are on a special adoption pkg to get them adopted before their allotted time is up.
Sorry for being so wordy I just think more people would adopt if they understood the process instead of walking in and getting "sticker shock" when they focus on the dogs everyone else wants too.

Quote: Why could be all the care they put into an animal and Altering is not cheap. The Humane Societies Charge 200 for Dogs why cant a rescuer that does not get the public help ? I do not raise dogs any longer since my sheltie died but i do raise cats . If you had any Idea what it takes to rehome a rescue you would understand , But i never rescue my same breed as i think its conflict of Interest and truthfully i have not seen a sheltie or a Pixie bob Pure blood in a rescue situation .

On all honesty, it does not bother me when people are asking $200 or $300 to rehome a pet that they just rescued and gave medical attention to. I have a dog, have had them in the past so I know the costs of vet care, etc. it's when people are on there selling purebred dogs - cane corsos, bulldogs, etc and asking $800+ for them that I get annoyed. It's like ok, you're obviously a breeder, set yourself up a website or something or place them in your local paper. Because like others have stated - Craigslist is not a place to sell animals.
