I had ferrets while pregnant. Not sure if they were a danger...... but I made hubby clean their litter box anyway.Cats are an EXTREME NO NO if you EVER want to become pregnant. It's not that cats are jerks, which they can be lol, its because their poopoo in a nasty litter box in your house could cause a severe bacterial infection called Toxoplasmosis, which can cause death to your fetus, and possibly you.
Please do get rid of the cat box to an outside place if you do ever decide on babies![]()
Dogs, no problem for me, except a nice big scar on my eldests' lip from a very bad choice of pulling a tail. I have one too, though lol, its a risk we take. But for the most part, I've had a great big dog that is a great babydog, and chihuahuas that are not so much, but never bit any of the babies, actually seem to like them. Depends on the dog.

Oh I also had reptiles......He got to clean those too.
and the prairie dog cage, ...... and can't forget scoop the yard of dog waste.
I was not going to take any chances!

As far as dogs, we had a 14 yr old dog when our 1st was born. We were nervous about his reaction, so we made sure to put our baby's onesie (after she wore it) in his bed so he could get used to the scent before we even came home from the hospital. He pretty much stayed away, though. When she started crawling on the floor, he just went to another room. He passed away before she could walk. Months later we got a 6 mo old lab/dane mix when our daughter turned 2. He was fantastic & worked as a baby gate. The dog just knew that she was not allowed on the stairs & always blocked her. He was a jungle gym, playmate, snuggle companion, baby gate, & floor vacuum all in one! Our dog is 9 now & really feeling his age. Poor old guy. Our daughter is still his favorite person.
So yes, it's work having a dog & baby, but having the right dog can be a wonderful experience. The reptiles, ferrets, & prairie dogs were not good pets for young children, but still part of our family. We never let our daughter touch them unless we were holding the animal, and a simple baby lock on the cage kept everyone safe & happy.
