Oh Craigslist, You Amuse Me So!

I like that.

The other option is to go to the animal shelter. I know at our humane society they just have a sign in log and anyone can go and socialize the animals. It may be harder to do that in Boston given that it is so big, so there's more travel time and traffic and so on.

Thank you for saying this as I was going to.
Our indoor cats have all been indoors for over a year and a half nearly two(Luna of course is the youngest) and they do not eat any mice they kill the odds of them even having toxoplasmosis is very low.
Plus DH2B would absolutely be the one cleaning the litter box then.
Plus they now have a test to find out if you've ever been exposed to it before and if you have I believe you can't get it again.

I've worked in an animal shelter with over 200 cats if I was going to be exposed I probably was.

We keep our litter boxes in a spare bedroom we call the cat room. We have two very large Maine coon kitties(the feral siblings) because of this normal sized litter boxes were not ideal even the XL ones they sell were too small, so we have two low storage totes like for under a bed. They work great and give the cats all the space they need. Each one is about 6" deep and 3' long by 2' wide give or take.

I will never get rid of my cats. I also think that people who get rid of their animals simply BC they're having a baby or any of a host of other excuses(including bc the animal is old and they've gotten a new one) have no business ever having animals. I'm also iffy on whether or not they should have kids too. To me that shows a huge amount of selfishness and they obviously will not raise the children with the respect and understanding of other animals.

For instance if I got pregnant and got rid of my cats right now 2-3 of them would probably never make it out of the shelter. But really the number is much higher than that.
Luna is young but she's not a kitten and she would act fearful in a shelter setting. She is a brown tabby with spots instead of stripes.
Pepper is turning 16 plus she's a little nuts from when my brother and his wife took her for a year. She's a beautiful cat but at her age and being a dark tortie it would be a death sentence.
Fluff and Cissie would probably have the best chance BC of they're beauty and sweet natures but they're not kittens anymore and shelters are over crowded with cats they're 5 I wanna say but I'd have to look the years go by so fast. Fluff is a medium/long haired orange tabby with white feet and white markings on his face chest and belly. Cissie is a brown tabby with lots of white markings including on her face. Her entire chest and belly are white.
Phantom is all black around 70%(I believe that's the number) of all black cats that go into shelters never come out just because of the stigma. By comparison overseas black cats are thought to bring good luck and I even have a friend in Haiti that has two black cats. When I told him how black cats are thought of in the US he was horrified and thought it was ridiculous. This from a man that lives in one of the poorest nations and that has one of the highest numbers of animals sacrifice and voodoo practicing anywhere.

Also with Phantom's scar tissue on his eye some people would be further turned away by it not knowing his story. Despite him being one of the sweetest cats I've ever known. Plus he is a year or two older than Fluff and Cissie. Cats are considered seniors at 6-7 now even though many live well past that with the appropriate care and love.

I'm sure many of you would agree that when you get an animal it's a commitment to the life of that animal. This is how I feel and this is my promise to each of our cats and dogs. They will be with us for the remainder of their lives.

Now onto lighter things before I read today's CL adds that have been posted.

We had a dog when I was growing up we didn't choose him he was abandoned on our little farm before I can remember. He was a purebred(quite nicely bred too) cocker spaniel and we was black as night except for his big chocolate brown eyes. My brothers named him Pretty even though my mother tried to explain that he was a boy. Lol Pretty was a wonderful dog! Gentle and patient with us children he wasn't perfect though. He was highly protective of us me especially and bit a couple of people because of it but he got better with age. He also had a bad habit of chasing cars and got hit three times when we were little despite our best efforts to stop him. Eventually he had to be tied. I should also mention the reason he was abandoned was BC he had seizures. We gave him the pills and he was fine. I know not every dog responds to meds but he did. My father hated animals in the house back then and Pretty wasn't allowed in the house unless he'd been hit by a car, then only for recovery. The cats were also not allowed in the house either unless they were injured.

My Mom was the opposite and I got my love of animals from her. She is also the one who taught me to care for them, including treating the ill and injured and raising the orphaned. My father was under the impression that any cat would destroy and pee all over the house BC Mom and Dad had had a tom cat that wasn't neutered that peed all over. Duh.

Anyway my Dad did eventually begin to soften to animals but never let them in the house. That's the way he was raised. Although he did build an amazing dog house for Pretty I'm sure Pretty just wanted to be with us.

Who said to get rid of a cat? I know I didn't. I said to move the fecal matter outside. You're more than welcome to inhale all the poo fumes you want lol.

But um, IMO anyone who would actually choose to keep an animal over a child doesn't need children. I culled all my roosters and half of my flock in preparation for my infant son who is 5 months old because I care more about his eyeballs than a dumb rooster, and we don't allow the cat in the house because I care for and respect my allergic husband.

There's always 2 sides to the coin.

You have a point and I feel like there's two sides to every story. And I feel bad it kind of turned into everyone jumping on like that. You never said to get rid of the cat

But that said, I feel like if the smell is a concern, the box could be cleaned more often. Obviously there's gonna be some smell no matter what but if the smell if germs is a concern, it could be cleaned every day or multiple times a day.

And I feel like allergic is different and understandable, if someone is allergic I'm sure they'd get rid of the cat or put it outside too

Meh, lol it happens on here. A person just tries to clarify something and another person misinterprets, and s few more jump on a bandwagon and before you know it, personal opinions start flying and someone gets completely offended for no reason.

:p that's life lol :D

I usually just keep my mouth shut and now I remember why ha-ha ;)

Where did the Cerberus 3 headed rooster go? He was cute, nothing to quibble over on that one :)

I never said I would put the animals before my own family of course I believe there are valid reasons to rehome a pet but I believe way too many people use stupid excuses to get rid of a pet they feel is disposable.

I was not only responding to your comments but to our previous conversation about people getting rid of animals IE the woman with the pit pup and the rottie pup for the three month old and the obgyn telling my friend to get rid of her little sister's cat.

So I'm sorry for my part of this miscommunication and disagreement as for this topic and disagreement I'm done with it. I would like to just leave it as is and go back to enjoying the CL adds.

Awww. That sounds like a sweet idea. I hope he's for real & that they find someone.

Our neighbor lost her husband a few years back. She's always been an animal lover but is using this time of her life to travel - A LOT. Not really fair to keep a dog if she spends weeks at a time away. Instead, she borrows ours. She's always volunteered to be our dog sitter, keeps a box of dog cookies by her back door, and when lonely, she'll call us to see if the dogs can go over for a playdate. Win/win.

BTW- We have wonderful neighbors.

That is so sweet! He's a keeper ;)

As for the Cerberus rooster I wish he was closer because I have a gray silkie hen I would love to put with a splash roo.

He was a pretty cool looking dude :)

And I apologize for going all weird on you..you quoted me, I've been having a rough day, and I stuck my opinionated foot in my mouth. Two wrongs definitely don't make a right and it didn't make my day any smoother by having a tantrum lol. Sorry :p

Thanks I appreciate the apology and agin I'm sorry too for the miscommunication sometimes messages and text just don't get things across or they get the wrong things across.

I'm glad we were able to work it out and I hope there's no hard feelings.

Also congrats on the little one. Children are wonderful blessings and of course I would go to any lengths to be sure my future children or any children for that matter were safe.

Last weekend we had my three year old nephew out to meet the chickens and it was a blast! He did great and our flock was amazing! We purposefully cull any birds that show people aggression and will always do that. We will also not leave any young children unattended with the flock. That being said we have had several families with small children visit and even had a two year old very enthusiastically run after, but not chase, and catch a large buff Orpington hen we have and carry her over to us. Lol the roosters were relaxed and understood that since I wasn't worried they didn't need to be either. Lol but you should have seen the look on the hens face.

She could very clearly tell that that little boy was more or less a "chick" and she was incredibly patient with his antics lol. His family was here buying chicks from us. He wanted that hen lol until he actually saw the chicks.

When my nephew was out last week he kept going up to our big chocolate cuckoo English orp roosters over and over lol no fear what so ever and although I was right beside him it was great to know that I didn't have to worry. All the cockerals and roos gave him one good look over decided he wasn't a threat and went about their business.

It also helped that against his very rambunctious three year old nature he did not chase any of the chickens at all and was very calm even though at one point he did go bunny hoping through the flock they were all calm. Except the guineas which he was following around out of curiosity. Then again the guineas are always spazzes as they weren't raised by us but adopted later on when they were about 8 months old. They've calmed down a ton though and now don't panic every time we get close to them.

You could tell my nephew knew they were different somehow BC they make different noises but not what they were. Lol

When I told him they were called guineas he repeated it quietly a couple of times to himself and then went back to the chocolate cuckoo rooster. :)

He's going to be a future chicken owner for sure some day. :)
