I don't know what I am going to do with myself tonight!!!! I know I won't be able to sleep, they have a nice secure place my DH & I fixed up. It used to be our milkhouse! I think they like it, they just had to go out! I know they are big enough at 9 weeks! I was putting it off but the time had come to get it done!

That big brooder box is so empty now tho!! I brought a chair out so that I can be comfortable when I just want to hang out with my babies!! But oh my

I miss them already!!! They will have to spend a little time in there cuz we havn't quite got the run finished, it has to be secure ya know that! But i know they are happier than in the brooder box!

I also brought out a battery operated lantern to leave on overnight! We have had some bear sightings nearby lately and I'll prob get spooked but I will go and check on my babies several times during the night!

They're definitely old enough! I put mine out in the coop the other night and they're only 6 weeks old and did great! I miss having them inside, too, though.

Hard to see them "grow up" but it means we're that much closer to getting eggs, right?

Spread some cayene pepper around the perimeter of the coop - Bears aren't really partial to it. We used to live in New York State and we had quite a few black bear meanderings around the house. I would not keep food out all night either. My family is from Alaska - They use cayene pepper and bells on strings.

My uncle tried to build a coop up high on stilts but then the Eagles wanted to sit on top and gaze at the chickens. It was a bad concept from inception.

Where do you get that pepper, and do you mean the chicks feeder I should not leave in the coop with them?
Thanks very much for the tips!

I feel your pain, my girls have been in the coop for two weeks and I didn't sleep the first week. Any noise and I was wide awake ready to defend them...not sure how but ready....they will be fine and happy. Try to relax and enjoy them...

They'll be fine and they will really blossom. You'll see.
