Oh great!

ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!!! I have a friend who has applied for a border patrol job. Guess where he told me he would be sent if he gets the job? North Dakota or Wis. I think is the other state, because guess what the Mexicans are doing? Flying to Canada and walking across the border. You might not be safe in the northern states either now, with this going on. Where are the Candadian officials? Surely they have some say so in this!!!!

Exactly what is this Swine flu? Swine is pig, so I am confused as the news showed chickens.

So far they haven't linked the two cases in Texas to Mexico, although it is the same virus.

Sounds nasty....I really didn't think the next scary 'flu outbreak would be bird flu. They are watching that one too carefully. 'Flu is actually one nasty @ss scary virus because it does mutate easily, jumps species, and goes from contact spreading to airbourne easily......

I hope they find point zero, and get in contained quickly. The good part is that it doesn't seem to contagous. Mexico City has a huge amount of tourist traffic, and so far the virus has only been found around Mexico City, in California (6 cases) and the two in Texas. If it had been extremely contagious, it would be all over the world by now.

Spitting on someone is the ultimate disgrace. . this kid had to have seen someone else do it. (Which is NO excuse . . .but we aren't born spitters of people) How terrible for your little boy . . .does the school support punishment for kids who do this? I hear more and more parents say the teachers are telling the kids to "handle the problem yourself", and that sure isn't a good response.

Awe crap! I didn't realize there WAS two cases in Texas already.... I just heard talk of all the border crossing etc this morning on the news. Where were the cases?

OMG!!!!!! I'm am such a germ freak!!! I work at a prison and I already have flaky dry hands from washing and sanitizing too much!! There are so many things spread by "droplets" that it's just freaky. I hope it doesn't make it's way to Florida---but with Disney and all the other tourist traps I'm sure it will!

Oh for Pete's sake. Swine flu goes around every few years. Some years it is worse than others. Different strains. Don't blame Mexico. Most of the time these bugs get here on a jet plane.
Mexico may just be where the flu happened to land or get noticed this time. Usually it comes in from the Orient, but who knows? That is where people, pigs and poultry all live in very close proximity and the viruses travel from one to the other and occasionally mutate along the way. And for the vegetarians feeling smug because they don't eat pigs, bad news. You get it from people, not pigs. And if you did get it from a pig it wouldn't be because you ate one. Flu is an air borne virus. There is no point getting your feathers ruffled about it. Just keep up your immune system. Eat nutritious food, get plenty of rest, wash hands, get a flu shot when and if a vaccine becomes available, etc.

Lol, my Nana is FREAKING over this. She's calling everyone she knows "don't touch any pigs! Everyone is a potential carrier!"

I'm only worried about the fact that it can possibly transmit to my chickens. Luckily the show season is over until State Fair in August, so they're going on lock down till this thing mellows out. No need for them to get sick and have my Nana call the CDC. lol.

Good point. Still, how serious is this thing? Is it just like the common flu? Or is it really bad?
