OH, help please cat/ kitten emergency amazing update!

I will call but the only vet available is the emergency vet service all the vets use, and like I said, if they tell me to bring her in, I just can't, it is extremely expensive, I wasn't kidding about the 600.00. We spent 800.00 on our dog there last fall. And as it turned out, it wasn't even really necessary. I had to put it on a credit card.

I know purring can be a sign of pain too but I have had cats in the past purr when they are ill or in pain and there is a difference. I don't think she's in pain, I think she's just anxious.

I did call the vet ER service. They seemed to think everything was normal and said that she might be postponing labor as she is anxious and a bit stressed..said the best thing to do is leave her alone and let her settle, and she should start having them. He said if she labors for more than an hour without having a kitten, that is an emergency and she should be brought in then, but I won't KNOW that bc we'll be sleeping and leaving her alone like they told us to do in the first place...

Anyway, he said the bloody discharge and everything is normal.

When my Ba Kitty had her kittens (2 litters now) she waits until night time and waits until we are in the room with her. You said hshe is a once feral cat...how friendly is she? does she have her shots? I ask because when Ba Kitty has her kittens she seems to like it when I rub her belly but she chews ( not bites) my fingers when she has contractions. Some discharge is normal. If she has a kitten stuck you will know it by the howling, spinning around in circles and rubbing her backside against the walls etc. Good Luck with your kittehs if you have time try and sit with her while shes in the box....will at least make her feel comfortable being in there.

I had a cat that had bloody discharge for a while too...
Turns out she had ONE huge baby and it was later born stillborn... i couldnt save it.
I wouldnt wait toooo long.

OOH and my cat didnt yowl and rub herself on the box or anything... if she had, i would have known to bring her in...

Well, she's not doing anything like that, spinning or rubbing, and she hasn't even been IN the box, except to check it out, she hasn't laid down to try and have any kittens. Interesting because we noticed she was rolling on her back when we were out there earlier and enjoyed having her belly rubbed, too.

Any kittens we have had (some easy births and some not so much) I can tell you there is a very distinct difference in the sounds they make when they are uncomfortable because they are nervous/giving birth and the howling sounds they make when they are in distress. Just try and keep an eye on where she goes if you can. Sometimes they just don't want to go in the box. Is this her first litter?

glad to hear you were able to call though and that hopefully they gave you a little peace of mind

here's to hoping you wake up tomorrow with healthy kittens.

Well, I think there is a problem. We went out a bit ago to feed the chooks and see how BK was doing. She met us at the door like always, ate breakfast, supervised us catching a rooster who had string wound around his leg, accompanied us to the house to work on Popcorn the roo, watched closely as we did, then went back to the barn with my DD. No sign of any discomfort, or anything, but she was still very big. BUT... a short time later my DD heard mewing and found two kits under a very low shelf. They were dry, so apparently born during the night. She made a box for them and BK went in to the box, where they were nursing. But then she started panting. We tried moving her and the kittens in the box into a big enclosed chicken pen we have, it is enclosed with board walls and very private. But she wasn't having it, meowed til we let her out, then went back and stood where she had had the kittens. So we moved the box back there. Well, we are of course keeping an eye on her but apparently she is not done with labor, and we are very worried about her. If she could just last til tomorrow, I could take her to our regular vet, but...I'm not at all sure that's going to happen.

Also, I have no idea if this is her first litter, she was an adult when she came. I doubt it, as I said earlier, she looked pregnant when she came to us in December, although we had seen her around earlier in the past year and she did not look like that. It makes me think maybe she has a serious problem anatomically and maybe she aborted the first litter, I just don't know.

OH yay, I got hold of one of our local vets! He told me not to worry as long as she is acting like she's not in pain, he said some cats can have kittens over a period of a couple of DAYS, and will go in and out of labor. He said ideally she should be confined but if it's making her uncomfortable, than just leave her be.

OK...now I can think about something else for a bit! And I have him on call if I need him. We have been to him bf and although he's more expensive than our regular vet, he won't charge 600.00.
