Everyone was doing great yesterday...eating, drinking, pooping <oh lord pooping> out of the order we recieved. Except for the little one who was almost DOA, and died shortly afterwards
We took the rest out late last night after it was dark to the coop, to sneak under the broody wanna-be momma. We took the eggs she was sitting on, and she was like "HEY"
Then we put the first chick under her...and oh I wish i had thought to do pics. She had this look of wonder as she realized there was a baby there. I have never in my life seen such a happy expression on a chicken face before. We slowly tucked the remaining 7 under her, and she was beaming. Happy chicken noises abounded from the nest she was in, and I have never seen a happier looking bird in my life lol
I was up most of night checking on them to be sure no problems, but all Esther did was purr her happy trill. Every time I checked on her she was purring away. I went out this am to check on her, and she was in chicken nirvana with the babies exploring around her. Her sister, the head hen of our little 2 bird flock, came to see what was going on, and she just stared at them for a min. Then SHE got in the nest next to Esther and they both had this look of d'awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww on their faces as the babies ran over them and around them.
I am so happy atm... my two lonely hens are happy...the babies are happy, and I KNOW Esther is thrilled to finally have the babies she has wanted for so long.
