Everyone was doing great yesterday...eating, drinking, pooping <oh lord pooping> out of the order we recieved. Except for the little one who was almost DOA, and died shortly afterwards

We took the rest out late last night after it was dark to the coop, to sneak under the broody wanna-be momma. We took the eggs she was sitting on, and she was like "HEY"

Then we put the first chick under her...and oh I wish i had thought to do pics. She had this look of wonder as she realized there was a baby there. I have never in my life seen such a happy expression on a chicken face before. We slowly tucked the remaining 7 under her, and she was beaming. Happy chicken noises abounded from the nest she was in, and I have never seen a happier looking bird in my life lol

I was up most of night checking on them to be sure no problems, but all Esther did was purr her happy trill. Every time I checked on her she was purring away. I went out this am to check on her, and she was in chicken nirvana with the babies exploring around her. Her sister, the head hen of our little 2 bird flock, came to see what was going on, and she just stared at them for a min. Then SHE got in the nest next to Esther and they both had this look of d'awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww on their faces as the babies ran over them and around them.

I am so happy atm... my two lonely hens are happy...the babies are happy, and I KNOW Esther is thrilled to finally have the babies she has wanted for so long.

oh I will....but would have loved to have gotten a pic of the look on her face. It was absolutely the look of amazement and happiness

Never ever seen that look on a bird before lol

I never had as much fun raising chicks as I did when I hatched under a momma hen. She was suuuuuuch a good mother! It's too cute watching a hen teach her babies about things.

I am always amazed at the whole process of hatching. I put some serama eggs under a broody silkie and last night they started hatching. They are so cute & small & the silkie is taking such good care of them (4)

pics pics pics
and if you can get us a video!!!!
that would be awesome
what a great story!

Don't know about video...never done that before and tbh, not sure if we have anything that wil take one....but DH is taking a ton of pics, and we wil try to get some up asap. The card reader is MIA...so we cant upload anything just yet grrrr

But hopefully tonight or tomorrow we will be able to do so, at least put up pics. I have been in and out of coop area to check on them...Mercedes stays very near the nest and is extremely curious about whats going on. She had her head down earlier being very still , and making little inquistive noises at them. I have never heard her make them before, and the babies were just cheeping like mad at her lol

Esther was making these little come here clucks, and they all ran and dove under her breast feathers, and then ran over to Mercedes again lol Then they all ran en mass back to Mom lol Turbo speed fuzzy golf balls with beaks...oh my lol

This is going to be such fun to watch over the coming weeks!!!
