I went by TSC today just to look and ended up with 5 chicks at the whooping price of $1.00 - tax included. That is right - 20 cents per chick. I got 3 australops, 1 that I believe is a Lakenvelder, and 1 Hamberg. All but the Hamberg are about 2 weeks old and are starting to feather out which was the basis for the special price. The sales lady was nice enough to through in the Hamberg at my request and reduce the minimum to 5. This puts be about 7 chickens over my ideal sized flock, but I could not resist at this price. They had about 50 more. I'm trying to figure out how I can justify more. I went by the lumber salvage store on the way home and bought some lumber to make an additional run, but even at salvage prices, the lumber and wire will cost a lot more than the chicks.
On other note - this is the third TSC I have visited in the last 3 days and is the only one that offered a discount on the birds. I think it depends on the local employees and manager.
