it looks like your 2nd pic is a hen there are no hackle nor saddle feathers on that chicken...

Too light to be a hen, and there are curved sickle feathers.....

i have had hens with curved sickle feathers to me those feathers mean nothing i only go off of hackle and saddle feathers now (as far as using feathers to sex)

Those are all hens. The one in the first picture is ready to start giving you eggs if she hasn't already. BR hens are mainly black with white bars and BR roos are mainly white with black bars. Also, all BR roosters have bright yellow legs and no dark marks on their legs/feet, hens have light yellow legs and you'll see dark areas on their feet. Also, when they were little chicks roosters usually have a lot of white markings on them, hens are all black and may have a single small dot on it's head.

They could be pale because the hens are 2 years old and yellow skinned chickens will fade over time.

2 years old though? The other one looks like my 5 month old.

At any age that looks like a hen. No saddle feathers or long hackle feathers and too dark to be a barred roo. Are you sure she hasn't laid and egg? If not she may be getting ready to moult or has been spent. Sorry if this was mentioned, I didn't read the whole thread.
