I'll figure it out by november but nothing is really cut and dried.

Agreed!

Reality sucks.

Who could that be?

Any of the political hacks whose names are being bandied about. I hate to be jaded, but see nothing but continued disaster.

One more thing, I am on BP meds. Baby asprin plus Lysiniprol 20mg daily to keep me tick tocking. I think my bp meds have helped lessen the frequency of the migraines, but they seem to make up for that by intensity.

May try a low dose beta blocker (atenolol, metoprolol, etc) either with or in place of the lisinopril. or a low dose of both. seems to help more with the HA than the ace inhibitors (lisinopril). Or calcium channel blockers (diltiazem, verapamil) but they tend to cause a lot of swelling.

Good luck. Just don't go poking the gremlins with a sharp object.

I 've been a migraine sufferer for what seems forever.

My reg. MD tried many meds on me to no avail. This was a lot of years ago but either the meds didn't work or I couldn't tolerate them.

Now understand that our selection of doctors is slim and specialist slimmer. Then good ones of either almost zero.

I did go to a neurologist (we don't have them here so it was out of town) for a lot of years. After several years of no help with the preventative meds he finally told me Botox would be the next step but my insurance wouldn't pay for it and I couldn't afford it.

I was told last year about a certain chocolate that was having good results for many things. I Googled it and saw there were a lot of different complaints about it. Between that and it's expense I just thought no way.

My migraines continued. More friends gave testimonials for this chocolate so I gave in and tried it. (oh BTW a lot of ppl had lost weight on this too)

It did not take away my migraines but I have them a lot less and and less intense. I noticed this when I saw my migraine medicine (Imitrex) lasting a lot longer. Oh I lost weight as well.

I plan to buy more this week. The name of it is XOCAI X POWER squares. It costs about $150 for a month. Expensive yes but desperation to get help drove me to buy it.

If anyone here tries it please post the results because I would love to know if someone got some help too.

I havent tried it, but I love the idea that chocolate helps migraines an weight loss...

I get migraines, usually started with sinus, like Zzgypsy mentioned. My "cocktail" is sinus meds that must include guafnaisen (part of my prob is small sinus openings so must take something to allow snot to get out easier!), pain meds - tylenol and aleve together, some aromatherapy roll on stuff, and a cold mask on my face.

I cant take tramadol. I used to take Midrin and it worked great. No insurance now.

I have suffered from migraines for at least 20 years. I am now on a beta blocker, Inderal, and have them only occasionally. And they are much less severe. I do keep Treximet on hand if I do get one. My doctor has tried to decrease my dose of Inderal, I take 120 mg a day, but I can feel a difference within a week of doing so. I do good on the 120 mg per day, and it needs to be the name brand. The generic brand does not work as well for me. Before I started on the beta blocker, if I did not have Imitrex or Treximet on hand, they would last for several days with no relief. Good luck to you!

I don't know if this is related or not, but I am now on 20mg of Lysiniprol versus 10mg.. Lets see if I have less triggers for October......

Ibuprophen with codeine works for me! Plus a cold pack on my head and neck. If I can get the codeine in me before it really grabs hold, I can stop it in its tracks. Better living through science.

Boyd, have you ever had a sleep study done? After years of self-diagnosis of migraines & self-medicating (nothing worked), I had one for a solid week, gave in & went to the doctor. Referred me to a neurologist, who in turn did the sleep study. Found out that I have restless leg syndrome which sucks the quality out of the sleep I was getting. Although it took months to get the right combination of medications, he finally did & I havent had one migraine due to not getting quality sleep. I was tossing & turning an average of 40 times PER HOUR & even though I slept soundly & THOUGHT I was getting enough sleep, it wasn't GOOD sleep. Now, the only migraines I get are brought on what I've figured out to be my personal triggers--flourescent lighting, too much chocolate, too much sodium, too much stress. And contrary to popular belief, caffiene helps get rid of a migraine. Imitrex made them worse before it made them better, maxalt worked great but insurance wouldn't pay for it (?!). I cant remember what they have me on now, only because I dont have to take it very often, but it doesn't seem to work any more than the imitrex. I just try to avoid my known triggers & hope for the best when I cant...good luck with yours.

Ugh. I'm just coming alive after spending the last 36 hours with a migraine accompanied by projectile vomiting. Had no meds, couldnt get myself to a hospital. Couldnt form words well enough to ask DH to take me. Besides, we just moved to the boonies and he wouldnt know where to go.
He swears I had food poisoning (what?) because I was puking. I tried to explain migraine to him, but he just doesnt get it. I finally gave up an told him he wont get it unless he experiences it.
Anyway, I found this website that has some good info on it.
