I have not had a cigarette for nine hours and twenty minutes. I would have normally smoked around 12 cigarettes in that length of time.
I am not quitting smoking- to say that would be setting myself up for failure. It is my crutch to deal with stress and I have a lot going on right now.

However having a machine tell you that your lungs are 159 years old, and the doctor sending your chest xrays out to a specialist, well...it kind of takes the thrill out of a cigarette and loads it with guilt.

However, I told myself that I will severely cut down. Even if it causes me to gain a million pounds and I am lonely because all of my friends are scared of me (crabby).
I will do it for my children. BUT I gave myself permission to have a cigarette at 6:15. (I did the same thing at 3:15...but I made it through, said- aww heck, go for 4:15, etc etc...)

But I really want one- bad. really really bad.

Stupid addiction. I feel guilty for wanting one. I have smoked for 26 years.

Okay now I will go find the quitting smoking thread and tell myself I can have a cigarette after I have read all the pages in that thread.

You may want to consider cutting down a little at a time, not every 9-10 hours WOMAN!!! The first week or two people are truly gonna hide from you! HAHAHA!!!!

Here's what I can't figure out - I am a light smoker, my recent diagnosis was my lungs are clean and clear - WHAT??

You can do it we did.

A group of us quit on New Years day,

It is really not easy, but you will get there.

You are doing good. English Chick also got through by weaning.

Good luck.
Jena.

I understand your frustration. I am not a smoker but an overeater. I have been trying for the last year to eat more healthy. There are times, Like you said, I could tear a phone book in half. I get such a sugar craving it drives me nuts. Sometimes I give in but not like I used to. It will get easier. Minute at a time.

Wasnt me there!!!! I know I have too much stress in my life right now to do that undertaking!! I know my weaknesses well enough to know it ain't gonna happen right now. Maybe when things calm down some. I think I will concentrate on not biting my cuticles anymore....

I had a friend quit smoking a long time ago... just one day decided to up and quit. So, each day, she cut the number of cigs in half... if she smoked 20 a day, she only smoked 10. The next day 5, then it got to where she was taking out a cigarette for one puff, putting it out, and putting it back in the box. She was amazed at how easy it was to wean herself like that, and even more amazed at how much money she had saved from not buying cigarettes.

It IS hard... and I know you're not fooling yourself. But you can do it. For your kids. But mostly for you.
