Oh My Gosh!!

Hey PP, wondering if the good weather this year has made them more plentiful? We have seen either 3 bears or 1 bear- 3 times. lol

Curt's hunting buddy took one with his bow just a few weeks ago over in Damascus. And, even though you are near the Interstate, you are right in the middle of bear country between the Holston Mtns and the Clinch Mtns so I'm more surprised that you've not seen one before. lol.

Keep your sweet feed locked up.

The warm weather is keeping them from 'denning' but the natural food sources have dried up so they are willing to come closer to us to find some.

And besides, wouldnt your DH love to have a bearskin rug?

I know in the mtns there is bear poo everywhere and all the hunters are talkin about them being galore. But nope we've never seen any here before. Some people have been talking and said that the one that got hit was probably the one thats been spotted at the College. I know our dogs threw fits all night the night before, makes me wonder if he wasn't out there then. We're eat up with Coyotes too they come through the same time every night

We have coyote everywhere here too. I normally dont encourage 'killing for the heck of it', but we had 4 or 5 mama's have full litters this Spring and we are over-run on our mountain like never before. I worry that there wont be enough wild prey this winter and that they will be driven to look for easy meals in my barn....Gah!

Our neighbors go ATVing in the undeveloped land next to me and they've seen bear back there. So far, they've stayed away from my coop.

yeah so far they have staid away from my coops but I think the dogs help. We had to put a collar on Tucker, one of the females was tryin to lure him back to the pack one night. I've heard they'll do that then the males attack them. We've had a few people come and try to hunt them, but their smart!! I'm afraid for when the cows go to calving in the spring.

This past spring the DNR verified *via tracks* that a black bear had "passed through" our area about 5 miles south of my house, headed south. Don't think I didn't think about that at 3 AM while I was in the woods, pitch black, no flashlight, and alone!!!
