OH no... day21- the NEW accurite reads 40 degrees Higher.. update pg 2

I agree you need to open your vent holes. I never have mine shut. That is the source for fresh air circulation for your eggs. And get another gauge.....yours has to be wrong with that much condensation developing.

if the water is condensing, then either the temp is low, or the glass is being cooled by the temp outside the bator, in which case you could try upping the temp in the room you have the bator in.

sorry if im not any help

ya know we had that same issue with our home made Gopher-bator....the window was getting all fogged up! I think that is way our last hatch went so wrong...I think the kids and DH kept going in and opening it and wiping the window off!! I think we need a few more vent holes, I am going to do a test run tonight I think after putting a few smaller vent holes in. Gotta have this gopher-bator all dialed in for those special eggs that are coming in the mail!!!!!

Last night after the 3am post I put the towels on top of the glass .... and made all the difference. Maybe because the weather has gotten colder here! I hadn't thought of that. THANKS for that post... the towels worked!

But just to ease my worries... on the way home from work today I bought another accurite w/ the probe... haven't put it in yet.

The reading right now says 59% and with the towels on top of the glass... it's just foggy around the edges.... on the light bulb side it's clear to see through now. So I believe it's been fairly stable all day.

So you are saying Swtangel that the vent holes need to be unplugged right now? I went to unplug just one.. I'm worried if I take both out the HUM will drop lower even though the water tray is full

Today is day 21... tonight about 10pm starts day 22.... no pips. I had thought ONCE I saw one egg move... but that was last night.. and I'm not positive it moved or wishful thinking.

Right now I'm going to open the bator to change out the 2nd Radioshack (therm only) w/ probe I had borrowed a few days ago... will switch it for the new (2nd) accurite w/ probe so I can compare the HUM on both Accurites...will post with update.

Thanks for answering! I'm on pins and needles... waiting..

EDIT... adding pictures finally... have a new camera .... these pictures were taken TODAY when I got home from work... the condensation is less with the towels... and also turned on bathroom heater... duh!!! why didn't I think of doing those things on my own... my brains are so scrambled!

No pips yet ?? I was gone all day and hoped when I checked back you would have a baby piping !!! Dang !!!!

How many vent holes did you make in the bator ??

On most bators there are 2 vent holes, 1 you keep open day 1-18 and on day 18 you would up the hum and open the other one.

So If you have 2 I would keep them both open, if that makes your hum fall I would add a wet sponge or sock to get it back up, but try not to open the bator to much.

What is your new hum gauge reading at ??

In picture you can see two vent holes (2 wine corks aside)... and 4 ice pick holes 2" from the bottom on the long sides (2 per side). I don't have a fan.

No pips... and very bad news.

I installed the NEW Accurite Hum... it read 40 degrees HIGHER... read 84F vs. 44F was the 3 week old Accurite reading.

So I opened the lid... removed everything and emptied the FULL water pan... only left water in the 2 saturated sponges... then put everything back in... including the 3 eggs. Oh.. well, I left out the defunct Accurite and will try to return it to WM.

Should I keep trying with the new Accurite? At 10pm tonight it became day 22... I'm feeling sad. Not sure what to do.

OH I'm so sorry to hear that about your therm... My last hatch the accurite therm I had did the same thing (only read a higher HUM) so my Hum was way too low 4 chicks pipped and died!!! I was so heart broken... I went to walmart and picked up a diffent name brand Therm and it seems to be working better

Big Hugs I hope it all goes well...

Well, one of them is wrong !! I think the new one you put in is the "right" one only b/c with the dew on the bator with the old one that would mean the hum was higer than what it was reading !! I would keep the "new" accurite in there and go by that. Hope this works for you, but dont give up if it doesnt. This hatch could teach you a lot about your next, now that you know the flaws !!

Keep your hopes up !!

Condensation on the window like that usually means you are in excess of 100% humidity. Definitely not good and may have drowned the chicks. Keep hope and let us know how it turns out. If anything, it certainly is a learning opportunity. I'm so sorry if it doesn't turn out well.
