Oh no! I think my 'pullets' have spurs!

many hens have spurs, its not unusual. i have a BO hen that has pretty big spurs, about half an inch long.

I have a White Crested Buff Polish that has spurs as big as my Ameraucana Roo!!! I've never seen a chicken with spurs as big as hers but she still lays an egg most everyday for me! Sorry, I don't know much about this breed but they look like girls to me, but I'm pretty much a PollyAnna!

Thanks, they are beautiful. I have three other hens, all ex battery hybrids. They're lovely but they aint pretty so I've been wanting some laced wyandottes for ages. Think I may have got a bit too exited at the auction and just bought anything without looking at it properly

oops!

I have a really horrible feeling that at least one of them is a cockeral. Although it sounds like I could probably keep one, as long as it's friendly.

How long do you all think I will have to wait until I am sure? Do I just wait for one to crow? Or will it become obvious sooner than that?

Thanks for your opinions and help
xx

I hope they are quarantined from your other chickens. Id keep an eye on them; one doesnt look real happy......

Yep they are seperated. The pics were taken on the first morning, I was worried about the puffed up one too but since the pics were taken he/she has perked up, eating and drinking fine. I think it was just scared of me.

Since people have said about their hens with spurs I had a closer look at my ex-bats and they all have bumps on thier legs, so I'm less worried about that, but still have a feeling I may have a cockeral (or two)

haha, my ex-bats are fine with me now (it took a long time to get to that stage though!) I can go and sit in the run with them and they love to come over and see what I'm up to, or what food I have bought for them but if my husband comes out to see where I am they all run and hide in the coop and wont come out until he goes away! To be fair the feeling is pretty mutual I think. This is useful when It comes to putting them to bed. If they aren't in the coop I just send DH round the front and shut the door when they've all gone in!

On an aside, I noticed the 2 little 'wyandottes' also have tiny small feathers between their middle and last toes. Could they be mixed with cochins?
