There was a major car accident near my house last night and the power was knocked out for 6 hours!! I haven't lost power ONCE before but of course now that I have eggs in the bator I did.

The temp was at 75 when I took off the MANY MANY blankets I piled on it after the power came back on....I slept on the floor crying next to my little eggs.....my eggs are only on DAY 3....and I fear that they may all not be viable anymore. I will see them through at least to candling in a few days.

Have eggs gotten that low before for that long (6 hours is long)....and still hatched. My poor little shipped eggs....first I shipped them to me, then they are in an LG and now this.....

smile......i think there is still hope the temp never fell too low...i think ul be ok....let us no how u got on when u candle them

Yes there is still hope, theres always hope. I've seen eggs dip down lower than that for alot longer and they still hatched. Get your temps up and go ahead and candle at day 7 and see what you get, unless clear don't throw away. You might be pleasantly surprised, and good luck!

I've had eggs in the bater when the power went off for several hours and I've had broody hens switch nests and who knows how long she was off? Your eggs should be o.k.,but may hatch a day or two later. Good luck. Were the people alright?

I am not sure about the people....it looked really bad. There was a lot of rescue crew shouting but it was just far enough away I couldn't make out what happen. Took out a power pole....I hope they were ok..

My temps are back up to 101...they were perfect up to that point. Fingers crossed...I really love my little eggs....

Don't toss them babies....you'll get chicks out of them most likely!

I, like the dummy I am, decided one night about dusky dark to check the eggs under a bantam hen I had sitting under the car port.
Well I ran my hand up under her and she freaked, jumped up, flew off the nest about 200 feet and went to raising all kinds of hello like I had tried to kill her.
She roosted in the tree that night, I figured what the heck, I'll toss these eggs tomorrow. The next morning when I went out, there she was all hunkered down like she knew what was up.
I figured I'd see what happened.
I ended up with a GREAT hatch from those eggs and she had been setting for close to 2 weeks.
The temps. that night went down into the high 30's!!!!
Sooooooooo, give them a chance, there's hope still!

some lady on here said her power was out for 12 hours and hers hatched. Dont give up hope. I am on day 5 in my LG. Just canled last night and saw all fertile and 10 actual babies. They looked like human fetuses (What is the plural of fetus? ) I am so in love with my eggie babies too. What kind do you have? I have silkie.sizzle.frizzle.buff orp.dominiques and polish.

Thanks! You guys have made me feel SO much better and that is needed after such a long night.....I hope they pull through. I told them that I wouldn't eat them...if they just made it to hatch.

They are my "pet" chickens. There are Silkies, and Silkie Mixes, and a couple of Faverolle eggs. We have a whole bunch of "regular" chickens but my husband says my brain has to seperate the pet and the regular cause he INSISTS we WILL eat the regular.

I just want a million pets. We have a goat that was bought to raise and then resell for meat and I am having him castrated next weekend so he can live with his mom and sister forever as my PETS. Husband is not pleased:)

Hello, never give up. After 12 hours of the power being off in the middle of winter I still had 9 chicks out of 28 eggs. I was away and the power had been off for 4 hours before I knew it. I cried and cried. To think I all most had my husband get rid of them. Keep us posted and show pictures when they come. If I can do it you can. It was my first time and I knew nothing. it was the longest 21 days of my life.
