Spazzy and the other two healthy ducks were under their haystak fast asleep when I got home. YAY! However Gimpy was sitting outside cheeping mournfully.
The only crate I have is a large dog crate not at all capable of handling the outdoors even though it's plastic (holes on top and sides, no lower venting, no drainage). Due to the pending thunder storms (which seem to be prime entertainment for the healthy ducks) Gimpy will be staying inside.
So I got a giant rubbermaid container the size of the crate, lined it with old jeans and papertowls, a couple of beenie babies beloved by pets over the years, and some water and food. Gimpy sampled some duckmeal and the water and gobbled the peas I provided.
He's insanely doscile, hasn't cried, wants to get away on one hand if given the chance, but no fighting, seemed to like to be stroaked and held. Got him only 2 weeks ago at 4 weeks old, so far too old to imprint. Because of Spazzy being a big mouth and souding the alarm anytime I got withn 30 feet of them they haven't been very domesticated either. Gimpy and his fellow underlings were far braver and responded better.
The other 3 ducks seem pretty upset at the loss of Gimpy, but Gimpy seems to not mind the royal treatment.
