Thanks for the replys.. My husband picked up some sevin dust and put them up last night and dusted all of them.. What a mess.. I just wanted to make sure they were all alive this am. lol. They are fine and I see a big improvement over them. Wow.. frontline for cats..

I picked my BR up last night to check for mites. Her butt is bare. I am ashamed to admit I thought it was because she pulled the poop off that was stuck. I didnt see anything but her skin looks dry adn scaley, and kinda itchy. Do you think this is mites? I am not sure I can dust my rooster. He isnt exactly very friendly.

I also have a rooster that barely tolerates me, but I was able to dust him at night no problem. Just keep the light dim when you go after him. I have found that if he can't see what's going on, he's fine.


For the spray stuff, Permethrin, is there an egg withdrawl on that? Where can I find it?​

If the bugs are coming out at night to bite the birds (and those would be mites, not lice), you need to thoroughly spray the entire coop. Bleach will kill germs, but will not necesarily kill mites. Even though a coop is painted, the crevasses, cracks and corners can become bug hiding places. If you don't kill the bugs that bite your birds, they will continue to bite them. Yes, the ivermectin or eprinex or poultry dust may kill them, but until they die, they will continue biting. Not only do they rob the hens of nourishment, they also pass disease.

So, yes, treat the birds, but don't think that treating them means that you don't also need to treat the coop and roosts. If the roosts are over your head, I recommend using a step ladder.

Have any of you used the poultry protector? I am going to check for mites tonight with a flashlight since I dont see any sign during the day. How long do you have to throw the eggs away with Sevin? What about Permethrin?

It seems like I read somewhere on here that you do not have to toss the eggs if you use sevin.

I don't toss the eggs with seven nor with ivomec.

I actually sprayed mine today. I used something I found at Wally World called EcoSmart organic insecticide. It smells wonderful!! It is safe to use around pets and children. It says that it kills and repels mites among other pests. I was going to buy liquid sevin but this was a bit cheaper and plus organic.
