So I brought home our very first ducks today. (We have over 20 chickens and some rabbits too)! Well... Five little yellow Peking ducklings... Cool beans. Thought the other two were Khaki Campbell, however when I started looking up their images, they look nothing alike! Mine resemble Mallard or Rouen ducklings. What is the difference between a Rouen and a Mallard? And how the heck do I know which one I have? Lol. Can post pics in the am.

You will know what they are when they mature some. Others here can tell by pix of baby ducklings. Is it very important for you to have some specific breed? Sounds like you would be happy with whatever they turn out to be. :) Are they for specific purpose, like BBQ grill, or eggs and pets??? Ether way any duck can fit that requirement.
WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,, and :welcome

Breed specific....yes and no. I was adamant on Peking because they give eggs daily all year round. A fellow homesteader that has ducks near me has shared eggs with me in the past. Unfortunately, she only gets hens 3 at a time so I wasn't able to get any fertilized eggs to hatch of my own. When I went to pick mine up they had the other little guys and I've heard Khakis are good and friendly so thought to give them a try.... And this is what I ended up with.....

Whatever they are is fine with me, just would like to keep them and not have them fly off if they are mallards. As you can see the one is super cuddly and chill...

And of course, as you see in the pics, I HAD to get two little baby chicks as well. We started with four Amerecaunas but a mean ol neighborhood dog got two of them.... Lol. Mostly I'm asking about the breed of duck so I know if I need a covered duck yard or if it's OK for it to be open top. We do plan on fully netting our entire chicken yard, just because we've had issues with a hawk in the past, but that wasn't in our immediate build plans...... Thank you for whatever input your able to give!

Ducklings need water deep enough to clean nares. Chicks need it dry in the Brooder..I would separate them.
A margarine container with a hole Cute in the lid works good for Ducklings..

Our local feed store! Lol. They are the ones that told me Khaki Campbell! However when I looked at images of khaki ducklings last night (just for fun really), I realized they didn't look anything like what I have. That was a face palm moment. So my next thought was maybe Muscovy.... Except they don't sell them at all. Then I thought... "Surely not wood ducks or mallards....those are migratory...." It doesn't matter what they are as far as me wanting them, I just like to know EVERYTHING about what I do have. Lolz. Yep, I'm the one who researches every nuance of whatever breed of whatever I have, even our dog. It helps me know my animals that much better.

I would cover the pen regardless of the breed they are.

Hawks and coons and well pretty much every other predator likes duck better then chicken.

They are adorable!

Don't count on eggs year round from any bird though. Their little bodies need a break from laying to molt and winter is a bad time to hatch chicks or ducklings so they tend to take a break then too. Not to mention the short days and such.

I do wish you good things with them all.
