Haha sorry! Lol! This is really helpful They haven't even seen dirt yet so not cocci, so it must have been Failure to Thrive... Does this mean I can put my new chicks in with my 3 week banty's?
Personally I would not put a day old chick in with 3 week old chicks. The older ones will peck at the smaller ones causing you some more issues that can be avoided. I would still clean the brooder very very good before putting any new birds. Just because I think it was failure to thrive doesn't mean I am right. With chicks sometimes you will never figure out why they passed. It couldn't be a wide range of things that went wrong. I don't think that your chicks had anything disease wise just from the info that you provided. I really can't stress enough how bad it is to randomly give meds without being sure. It's okay that you didn't know. I am not lecturing you in anyway. I just want to help and giving unneeded meds builds resistance and then when they really do need something it won't work.
Okay good to know but the banty three weekers are smaller than the standard chicks... I can wait a few days but right now the day old standards are in the card board box they came home in next to the sterilite brooder bc they are under one heat lamp...
Thanks Nessa I do know all of this but I can't help to think that the next smallest banty and day olds will be really susceptible if it was bacterial... and I was only planning on keeping the Antibiotic water in for a day still a No Go?
I am sorry I misunderstood the size thing. If the younger ones are already bigger than the older ones then you could try but watch closely to make sure the older ones don't pick on anyone. I still say no on the antibiotic cause you don't know that they need it. May I ask what this antibiotic you are using is called?
Those are really strong meds that are used for things like respiratory diseases which I highly doubt that a chick that young would have if it hasn't be around any other critter. I also wanted to say that if you notice poopy butts you should clean it off. Pasty butt as they call it is very common.
