I am sooo ticked at myself right now.

I had some eggs in the incubator that I didn't realize were due to hatch so soon. They were due to hatch tomorrow. But I never switched them over to the hatcher when I was suppose to.

Well I remembered that I needed to switch them over. And when I opened the lid, 5 of them were pipping.

They started hatching a day early. In an incubator with 35% humidity.

I rushed them to the hatcher. It was already set up. It's been a few hours and I see no progress, but I can hear one cheeping.

I think I may have doomed them. I've had terrible hatches. And finally I get half of a batch to pip, and I kill them.

I'm still hoping that they pull through. But it's looking pretty grim.

I am just so upset at myself. Poor little babies grew so long to get to me, and they never make it out on the last day.

What should I do?

Don't worry too much yet. Those eggs are tougher than you think. I had quail eggs that were not turned because my auto turner was full, that hatched last night. The rolled all over the bator as I kept sticking them here and there trying to find a place they were stable. Most of the time they rolled off the turner/eggs onto the screen. As a matter of fact, I put 5 of them in the hatcher as you are supposed to, but one must of fell under the turner in the bator, there was a new tiny baby bouncing off the eggs in there this morning (at 33% humidity). I still don't see the egg it came out of. HUM? Good thing I looked in there today. Never give up.

Don't panic and don't blame yourself! How long has it been? Can you add some water to increase the humidity now? Mine always hatch in the 'bator. Can you still hear them?

I forgot mine too! I had gotten a new dog the day I should have taken them out of the turner & raised the humidity.

I remembered them the next day & they were already pipping in the turner racks.

I snatched them out & put them in the hatching portion of the brooder & dumped a half glass of hot water in the bottom. The humidity shot up to 70% in like 2 minutes!

It took them another day & 1/2 for all of them to finish hatching, but they all look great!

I'm so glad they didn't hatch in the racks, they would have been crushed to death for sure.

I'm sure they'll do fine! Don't give up yet!

You might want to mist them with some warm water to get the humidity up quickly.

Best wishes,

I agree with Mrs Glassman. I had one hatch while in the racks and he did just fine....freaked me out, a bit, but was fine. Hang in there, these little guys will make it to you!

I only had to put them in the hatcher because i have staggered hatches going every 5 days. If i only have one hatch going they stay in the incubator.

The hatcher was already warmed and at correct humidity. So I as soon I seen them pipping I rushed them to the hatcher. I am just scared the pipping at 35% hurt them.

I just checked again. I was mistaken earlier. Only 4 had pipped.

2 of those 4 have pipped slightly more!

But I have two more new pips!

They may do good yet. lol

My stupid incubator is old, and has done a terrible job. I usually get 3 chicks out of 30. Even when everything goes perfectly.

I got 7/35 about 2 weeks ago. And I got 3/9 a few days ago.

This time I already have 6 pips out of 13 eggs. Even after my mistake. This may be my best hatch % yet.

Needless to say. My new Brinsea is being ordered in a few days.

I am so tired of getting 1-3 chicks from 30 eggs.

I have four chicks out and dry.

One that needed to be helped. It is out but still attached to the egg, I'm not sure he will make it.

And I have one pipping on it's own fine.

And two that pipped during the low humidity yesterday morning. And after today I went in to help. They appeared to be seran wrapped due to low moisture. So I am glad I did. I just wetted down the open area. They are still alive, but they still have blood vessels so I just made their pip hole a little bigger and will let them wait.

We will see what happens.

Update again....

8 chicks out. They all look like that are doing good.

I checked the remaining eggs.

One is alive for sure, and is tapping on the shell to get out, so should pip soon.

One is a maybe.

And the other three I cracked open and found fully formed chicks that looked like they died within today or yesterday.

Thats what happens all on my hatches. They make it to day 18. Then never make it out. What could be causing this?
