oh no!! wrong food bought for my new chicks-help

best thing to do is buy another bag medicated te same brand and then mix some of the feed that way they get the medicated feed and you still can use both of them, by the way there are some folks who do not give hier chick any medicated feed because they kind have some of organic thing going.

Sounds like it could be the lyrics to a hip chick song, lol!

I agree with many other posters: you will be fine with non-medicated, and also ITA that I want my flock to develop its' own immunity, and so I prefer to help the birds do that and support that process, rather than investing my energy into believing that I need to protect them so much.

Different paradigm, that's all.

I had to search for weeks to find feed w/o meds!

They will be fine, don't worry! Just make sure they do have access to some of their feces so they can adjust to the cocci. You want them to grow a slow immunity to it. The medicated feed keeps the cocci from proliferating in their bodies so quickly. Just don't raise them on wire, I learned that the hard way last year

Hi sonew, Feeding them the non-medicated feed is fine --- I prefer it. Just keep everything clean and their water changed every couple of hours. Years ago I read that it's a good idea to feed them chickweed & chives (chopped up fine) with the rest of their food. I feed them the odd hard-boiled egg mixed with these greens & they love it. I've never lost a chick in 8 years -- They thrive on it ! In fact I've just managed to track down a supplier of chickweed seeds so I'm sowing them tomorrow in preparation for this years chicks.
