Today, my quail cage's hinge dry rotted off! I got most of them, three are still missing, one fell victim to the dog, and bird seed has been spread. If anyone knows any better ways to find them, please let me know!

Oh good friend, i'm so sorry for that.
I had a similar situation today. The main door had small holes on the down part, so i put a wood line there until they become bigger, yesterday I removed. Believe me, the last night I had a dream of some quails playing in front of that door, but outside! In the morning I run to count them and there are only 19 instead 20, My mother is still laughing about that strange story:(.
Probably may be similar to pheasants, I had the same situation some years ago with them and they stayed close the area, I left the door open and in a night i found them inside. You may try to put some food close to the area, to conserve they close if they are still. If you live in the camp, is a plus.
A trap may be factible, there are many alternatives in youtube.
Hope you will recover them! I'm so sorry for this terrible experience. I know how frustrating is :(

Thank you for the help, I will look at my options and find the best for the situation.

Oh no. Good luck finding them. :fl

My bobwhite got out and to my surprise they stayed together and close by. The only way I found to catch them was with my wife’s help to corral them and using an old fishing net. It wasn’t the prettiest capture but eventually we got all of them. Good luck!

I have coturnix so I'm not sure if they'll do that. Wouldn't a corurnix not be as adept in the wild than a bobwhite?

I lost a coturnix hen once and she came back to the cage and hung around the other birds for a few days.

I think if you stuck a male in a small cage with a funnel entrance he might call the hen back like bobwhites do with recall pens....

I have coturnix also, but I’ve never had them escape. I think the Bobwhite would survive longer though, but I have absolutely nothing to back up that claim. I had been keeping the Bobwhite in an open aviary (8X8). ‘mdees88’ had a great idea. I remember now that I did catch one of the bobwhites using a modified fish trap.

a couple days ago on of my coturnix quail got out (while i was gone) and my sister cornered it and got it like that. creepy thing is there was no way for it to have gotten out. there were no holes or anything. :hmm weird.
